Shuttlecock Price keep rising

I tried a few of the Mizuno Tech Feather 3, they felt a little heavier on the clear compared to regular feather and you have to make sure to get the right speed (cause you can't adjust them). I would say the few I tried lasted at least a couple singles matches each.

I am curious about the Mizuno Tech Feather 3. Apparently those synthetic shuttles are pretty close to feather but I heard they are really hard to get.
my friend brought back a tube from Japan and they are fantastic.
great sound; when you smash, it's got a real boom to it and we basically had the whole centre staring at us.
feels good too, just a touch lighter and softer than feather.
speed is pretty fast but the distance seem to cut short, my partner always go out on flat exchanges with feathers but with the Mizunos, it stops before the base line.
durability wise, it's real tough. we've played 8-10 games so far and not a single feather broke yet.
we've resorted back to feathers because of the flight pattern but still use it for warm ups.

I've just been ordering a new batch for my club and I couldn't believe the prices. There has been another massive price increase since december which now puts a "normal" shuttle like Victor Service at >30 EUR. Unbef*kinglievable. I talked to the CEO of one of the big badminton shops in Germany regarding those next-gen synthetic shuttles. And he told me that basically all big brands are working on something similar with the first ones supposed to arrive on the market in summer/fall of this year.

Looks like finally all of them have realised that only focussing on natural feathers and simply raising the price to eternity is not sustainable. There will be a certain difference to natural shuttles, let's all be realistic. But if they are just remotely as good as described by the few BC testers so far, I'd gladly accept that and be all in on those. It's just time to move on and adapt at some point.

Yes, Victor upped the prices again in Feb/Mar even though OEM factory pricing in CN went down a bit since end of 2024. The price of Gold Champion and anything below that grade is utter nonsense now. The quality of Victor shuttles has also plummeted in the last year. The GC might be manufactured in a new factory because it has new markings on the synthetic cork part below the sticker (says CP). I highly recommend to shop around if your club isn't stuck on a brand deal.

I sometimes see some good reviews on BC, but I've tested all the synthetic alternatives myself: Victor garbagesonics both old and "new", Mizuno Techfeathers (cost ~30eur per tube even if you somehow can get your hands on them), basically all plastic models, etc.
The plastics don't fly right and I'd take a well stored and hydrated high quality feather over the synthetics, even at current prices, because they just last longer and thus give better value-for-money.

Here in Canada, the Canadian Li Ning distributor just jacked up the prices recently - G800 went from approx $36 cdn to $50!

Will be a while before hybrid or synthetic shuttles will make their way to where I am as we require slow speed shuttles (speed 75 or 0 for Yonex) and none of the synthetic shuttles I seen are available at slower speeds.

Wow 8-10 Games is actually insane. I am currently using Baton Masters and they last around 1.5-2 games and I consider that a win. Really hope to see more R&D into these synthetics. I feel like some people are just outright quitting because of the price of shuttles. Even the Provincial level tournaments that uses Yonex AS-50s have increased their prices by more than double compared to what it was before covid.

I used to buy Victor Champion No.1 back around 2013-2016 and they were a solid shuttle for the price, lasting around 1-1.5 games. I recently played with a friend that had bought a tube and it was utter garbage. The flight and the feel of the shuttle was extremely off compared to what it used to be. Only lasted about half a game before the feathers got shredded.

Yea it is really sad. I had told my friends to order more because i felt the prices would skyrocket. When I asked the Baton Factory in China for Masters a year ago, I was able to get them for roughly 30$ per tube including shipping. At the time G800s were sitting around 34$ a tube. The prices of shuttles from Baton had slowly increased little by little over the year. I did a recent order from them and they ended up costing about 37$ CAD a tube including shipping. The main reason it went up so much for us is the CAD is really weak currently. If you were to compare USD, the Baton Masters only went up about 4-5USD per tube as opposed to Li Ning's G800s going up by 14$. Most likely its because Victor and Yonex shuttles are outrageously overpriced that Li Ning decided to follow the current market conditions since they now have a decent share of the market. I see alot more people these days ordering directly from factories from China as the sport is basically becoming unaffordable to alot of people.

I was googling for synthetic shuttlecock reviews & come upon an article from BWF back in 2020 regarding them approving synthetic shuttle for BWF sanctioned tournaments. But so far this seems to be quiet and no updates regarding that matter.

I guess this was more of a symbolic decision to at least open the door for future developments. Let's be real, none of the currently widely available synthetic shuttles have just remotely the performance to be used on a pro'ish level.

If the big brands decide to spend so serious money into the development of next-gen synthetic shuttles, it's important for them to at least have a perspective to see them used in big tournaments. This will be the ultimate marketing move in the sense of "if they are good enough for the pros, they will be good enough for you everyday players as well". And they would be correct with this.

I'm in Canada as well and I've been playing with Aeroplane Black Label's. I was able to get some from $36/tube. I also play with Ori bought from a local retailer in Markham for $25/tube. Flight pattern is pretty good, they just don't last as long as the Aeroplane Black though.

Price of shuttles are going off the roof! Here in Malaysia a tube of RCL shuttle which I usually use shot up from MYR72 back in Dec to MYR95 today and next month it's going to be MYR105, that's a freaking 45% increase in half a year.

The sad thing is one the prices go up, they never come back down. It's almost cartel like. Hopefully there will be a disrupter that drives prices down, but that's only a pipe dream. 😪

I have been looking at shuttlecocks recently and I was wondering if anyone had any additional experience with Airchy shuttles? I bought some to play with and they seemed not bad, especially as the prices of shuttles elsewhere seems to continue to go up.
