https://www.badmintonengland.co.uk/news/english-line-up-for-a-singapore-sling-at-super500-title/ Badminton England <> 16.07.18 English line up for a Singapore sling at Super500 title The England squad have two pairs next-door to each other in the top five of the Mixed Doubles’ seedings for the Singapore Open, starting tomorrow as the HSBC BWF World Tour Marcus Ellis and Lauren Smith sit as fourth seeds, one place above teammates Chris and Gabby Adcock - and the pair, split in the draw, will have one eye on an all-English final. The Adcocks head to Singapore on the back of a strong Thailand Open in which they narrowly missed out on their first HSBC BWF World Tour title, beaten, as they were, in teh final. The two aforementioned pairs both faced unseeded opposition in the first round, as do the third of four English Mixed Double pairs, Ben Lane and Jess Pugh. The young English pair could go head to head with the Adcocks in round two. Greg Mairs and Jenny Moore face the experience of home nation pair Chrisnanta and Crystal in the first round, the winner of which will earn a second-round meeting with the top seeds and world champions Ahmad and Natsir. A nice quirk of the draw would see this match played on Olympic Champion Tontowi Ahmad’s 31st birthday. The Indonesian pair have a first-round bye. In the Men’s Doubles, Peter Briggs and Tom Wolfenden face an unseeded Thai pair whilst Lane and Sean Vendy battle seventh seeds Arjun and Schlok, from India, in the first round. The Women’s Doubles again sees Chloe Birch and Jenny Moore face a Hong Kong pair in the first round, this time Ng Wing Yung and Yeung Nga Ting. Meanwhile, Jess Pugh and Lauren Smith have the difficult draw of the Indonesian second seeds Haris and Pradipta. Another English athlete playing the second seed in their discipline is Toby Penty. Now ranked in the world top 50, Penty faces Hong Kong’s Ng Ka Long Angus in his Men’s Singles match. In Women’s singles Chloe Birch will face unseeded Chinese player Zhang Yiman.
Badminton: Singapore Open 2018 draws more than 280 shuttlers from 22 countries Current world No. 35 Huang Yuxiang is one of the up-and-coming players who will be competing at the Singapore Badminton Open.PHOTO: AFP Published Jun 7, 2018, 7:12 pm SGT Lim Say Heng sayheng@sph.com.sg SINGAPORE - More than 280 players from 22 nations, including powerhouses such as China, Malaysia and Japan, will play in the July 17-22 Singapore Badminton Open at the Indoor Stadium, organisers announced on Thursday (June 7). Registration for the Badminton World Federation World Tour Super 500 tournament closed on June 5, with top players such as men's singles world No. 7 Lee Chong Wei (Malaysia), men's singles world No. 10 Lin Dan and women's singles world No. 2 Akane Yamaguchi (Japan) giving Singapore a miss. However, up-and-coming players such as China's men's singles world No. 35 Huang Yuxiang - who lost to Lin Dan at the All England Open semi-finals - and Japan's women's singles world No. 15 Sayaka Takahashi will feature at the Indoor Stadium, along with Malaysia's No. 2 men's singles player Daren Liew. Earlier, the organisers also revealed the inclusions of shuttlers such as Indonesia's world No. 1 mixed doubles pair of Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir, Thailand's former women's singles world champion Ratchanok Intanon, as well as men's singles defending champion B. Sai Praneeth of India. Praneeth told The Straits Times: "It is important to give a good show at the Singapore Open as I won the last time, and playing well in Singapore will give me more confidence for the World Championships (June 30-Aug 5)." Twenty-three Singaporeans will also play in their home tournament, including men's singles player Loh Kean Yew, who played in the Commonwealth Games on the Gold Coast, Australia, in April. Loh, 20, said: "The Singapore Badminton Open is always a special tournament for every Singapore national player, and we will definitely be motivated to play at our very best in front of our home fans." Tickets for the Singapore Badminton Open are available now via Sportshub Tix and ApacTix.
Shuttler Kean to take another step Loh Kean Yew (far right) speaking with Ryan Ng (centre) and Yeo Jia Min at yesterday’s press conference. TNP PHOTO: GAVIN FOO Loh happy to be in main draw and hopes it leads to the 2020 Olympics Jonah Foong Jul 17, 2018 06:00 am After showing great fighting spirit against top players at the Commonwealth Games in April, Singapore national shuttler Loh Kean Yew is hoping that this week's Singapore Badminton Open will be another stepping stone towards his dream of playing in the 2020 Olympics. At the Gold Coast Games three months ago, the 21-year-old performed admirably, nearly defeating England's Rajiv Ouseph, then ranked world No. 22, in the mixed-team event. Loh also reached the men's singles quarter-finals, where he lost to current world No. 2 Lee Chong Wei. Earlier this month, Loh received a shot in the arm by winning the men's singles title in the Mongolia International Series, beating Indonesian veteran Andre Marteen in the final. PROMOTED Due to a series of withdrawals at the Singapore Open, Loh, originally a reserve, was promoted to the qualifying draw, where he faces Thailand's Adulrach Namkul today. Speaking at a pre-event press conference at Mandarin Orchard yesterday, Loh, who is ranked No. 176 in the world, said: "It's very hard to qualify for the Singapore Open with my current ranking, so I feel very lucky. "I'm just going to play my best and try to go as far as possible, and gain as much experience going against the strongest and best players in the world." He will be joined in the men's singles by fellow national shuttler Ryan Ng, 20, who also crashed out of the Commonwealth Games quarter-finals, after succumbing to former world No.1 Kidambi Srikanth. Despite the withdrawals at the Singapore Open, which include women's top seed Ratchanok Intanon and men's seventh seed Tommy Sugiarto, the competition will still see the likes of defending champion Sai Praneeth of India and Taiwan's Chou Tien-chen in action. Aside from Loh and Ng, the hosts' 17-strong squad also includes women's singles player Yeo Jia Min, the women's doubles pair of Jin Yujia and Citra Putri Sari Dewi , and the mixed doubles pairs of Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Crystal Wong, and Terry Hee and Citra. Chrisnanta and Wong will meet the world No. 1 mixed pair and Olympic champions Tontowi Ahmad and Liliyana Natsir if they beat England's Gregory Mairs and Jenny Moore in the first round this afternoon. With an average squad age of just 20.7 years old, Singapore coach Mulyo Handoyo believes that the Open will provide an excellent learning opportunity for his charges. He said: "There is no concrete target for the Open, but we hope to look towards the Olympics in 2020." This year's edition features a total prize pool of US$355,000 (S$483,000). It is on from today to Sunday at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.

That's the main reason, only two weeks towards major event. Next year calendar, SGP Open will be scheduled on April, right after MAS Open Super 750. ROUND OF 32 (09.00am) => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...DEC522-C306-4A2A-9EC1-3C6DA23F4B33&d=20180718 Interesting MS opening round, Chou Tien Chen opposes the qualifier and former champion Sony Dwi Kuncoro. Also the veteran Lee Hyun Il will up against Malaysian promising player Lee Zii Jia, the stunning age difference between them, 18 years.
Hopefully at least one MAS player/pair can reach QF/SF.. What a terrible performance from MAS recently.
First match of the day is over in 19 mins. Ahmad/Natsir nudged Ou/Cao 21-15 21-4. In G2 Ahmad/Natsir pratically didn't have to do much at all. The Chinese pair hit most of their shots to the net.
The absence of many top players meant more up-and-coming players will have a chance to show their craft. This is particularly the case for most of the Singapore players.
Both husband and wife are playing at the adjacent courts. Tin minh nyugen and Vu thi thrang are great ambassadors for badminton in Vietnam. Sent from my SM-G600FY using Tapatalk
