Someone has given me a racquet with a cracked frame at the 1 o'clock position. I've pointed it out to them and they want me to try string it anyway. I've suggested stringing it lower, he only wanted 24lb so maybe 22lb or lower? Is there anything else you guys do that might increase its chances of surviving? Thanks!
Could you share a picture of the crack? Impossible to give any kind of clue without having a feel for how severe the crack actually is. In general, I refuse to string any frame with a crack that's going deeper than the paint. There is just no way to make an educted guess about how much a damaged frame can take or can't take. If the owner insists to have it strung anyways, then go as low as possible and make sure that the owner knows that he will have to pay for the job even if the frame completely dies during the process. And be careful not to get hurt during the job.
It's cracked all the way through so the opposite side looks similar. It's probably survived a certain amount of time being played in this condition but I assume the stringing process puts different types of stresses or stains on the frame. Nanoflare 1000ZZ if that makes any difference, I did see quite a lot of posts of breakages on these when they were first released.
ohh that doesn't look like it'll survive. if it's around the 12 o'clock position you can change the weave to avoid the crack but this position has a lot of strain during stringing.
Ok I've convinced my friend to keep it as an ornament. Even if it survives stringing at low tension it's only a matter of time I'm guessing before it'll cave in during play. Thanks for the replies!
Not going to touch it even in low tension. Even if it doesnt cave in, the racket frame will wrap regardless.
