It's pretty interesting group D, China certainly occupies group winner, host DEN & MAS will eye runner-up position. KOR & TPE are drawn in weakest group, while defending champion JPN possibly has no serious trouble in group A. THA who shocked CHN three years ago in Bangkok has modest draw, Sindhu-Intanon duel should be the highlight in Group B.

Thomas Cup offers more intriguing competition, title-holder China should be wary for Indian squad who relying on their various singles plus Rankireddy/Shetty. Top-seed and favourite Indonesia must face Chinese Taipei early which powered by the newly crowned Olympic Champions Lee/Wang. Group B comprises three European teams plus the unheralded Korea, sounds excitement to predict who will accompany Denmark in quarterfinal.

KNOCK-OUT STAGE DRAW will be conducted on 13 (Uber Cup) & 14 (Thomas Cup) October 2021.

Tonight we are going to decide 12 players in a team as I proposed it last year due to pandemic.. in case there are few players get infected

Don't think it will make a difference though if there is a positive case. The whole team will be training together and isolation rules means close contacts of positive cases also won't be able to play. The only way I see it is if a team actually splits into two subgroups that do everything separately.

But it may be based on the regulations in the host country ? In Germany, for example, a professional footballer who had played a game two days earlier tested positive last monday. The rest of the team has tested negative and is allowed to continue playing as normal.
So I don't know if there are special rules by BWF or Denmark.

This is called "safe"?

~ KOR is so efficient to bring fewer number of players than its arch-rivals in women's team CHN & JPN. Looks like the 2010 Uber Cup winner will banking on their two doubles pair plus teen star An Se Young.

Soniia Cheah is also not in the team. Didn't she retire after Tokyo Olympics?

Actually, this is the list for MAS Thomas/Uber Squad. Minus Goh Jin Wei who already retired.

Good to see a young MAS squad. When you look at the MAS squads in previous years, it’s always been heavily weighted to the ultra established players rather than giving a chance for experience to the younger players. They might take younger players in the past but rarely let them play and experience the on court atmosphere. I always thought their previous policy was too limited to prepare for future competitions. I guess it’s because they apply a no blame policy. If you field your best players all the time and they fail, the team selector can’t get any blame. If you field a younger player who loses, then the media and politicians are out to stab your back. Good for Wong Choong Han to be brave and break the cycle. BAM has already been very progressive by letting go established players at the beginning of this year but flexible in letting them back for training according to national needs.

So yeah, good and refreshing to see Malaysia change their selection strategy. We have seen them do the same things for so many years and hitting a ceiling with results. It’s better to change the policy rather the change the head coach but keep everything else the same!!
