Thruster FC Ultra

Had my first session with the Thruster F C Ultra.

First impression is that, despite being a head heavy racket, it actually wasn’t that heavy. Very easy to swing.

Given that it is a power racket, I was actually a bit underwhelmed. It does have power and more so than the DX12, but I thought it would pack more of a punch. Both smash and clears also felt a little sluggish. But it might also have something to do with my timing.

Net play was a bit of let down. The bird bounced in a weird way every time I tried to do a drop or a roll, often it would end up being three or four inches than usual.

All that being set, it was an incredibly fun and easy racket to play with. Hope I’ll get to know it a bit more in the future.

What do you think causes the lack of control? Is it a non-rigid frame, a smaller sweet spot, thin shaft? I find rackets like this hard to play with and trying to work out why/which racket attributes to avoid

Sweet spot is fine and it is actually a pretty forgiving racket in my opinion. There is some vibration coming from the shaft. Whether or not that has something to do with it, I am not sure.

I am inclined to say that, for my part, it has to do with the heavy head. I am used to playing Auraspeed or DriveX rackets and the extra weight in this one probably affects my timing.

I feel it a lot less in the 5U version. Even though it’s still heavy on the head, it feels more like my DriveX 12. Control is better here, power is less.

I just bought FC Ultra 5U. I have played 12 months with 90K metallic. I like stiff rackets and had good net and drops with 90km. But had less power in smashes due to my technique. I did also play littlebit with 100zz and 88D pro v3. Both great but I felt it was not a perfect fit. I bought the 5U version based on a friend in Bangkok who just switched from thruster F ultra. He said it was forgiving as F enhanced but had more power and flex than ultra. Well, for me it was a perfect fit. I also would never think I would use a 5U racket. Im going to bangkok next week and will try 4U, but I know its a completely different racket. If not, buy 2-3 more of the 5U version :)
