Yes THW has a very poor track record. Its noticeable that the ladies coaches have done a better job at improving their skills. Xue Yao and Han Li has impressed recently. They seem to have varied their game. Deception, attacking skills and even stamina is better. But not the men except for Du Pengyu who appears to have strengthened his smashing abilities and deception although not enough to bear LCW.
But going back to THW he has a lot of potential but needs to improve his speed, smashing accuracy and power and I feel lastly his stamina . I am a big fan of his but its so sad to see that he has not improved.
I strongly believe there is something lacking in the mens coaching methods.

He loses to lin dan today, can't compare him with lin dan at all, not in the same league. Currently, he still has a long way to be a top world class player..

You are right. THW is a player with too much style and no bite. His smashes do not penetrate defences very much. Everytime LD smashes THW is struggling to return. On the other hand LD picks up THW's smashes with interest as well. Compare this with the Indian player Srikanth or even S. Santoso.
Their smashes cut through the opposition's defences and results in unforced errors and easy points.

I like his style of play, but I think it's far too early to say he would become next LCW or LD...

WCM play better than him against lin dan,he is defitnetly not the same league as Chen long or Lin dan but really had the potential as I think his footwork is very precise

As much we know, he seems like he is one of the best candidate we have in badminton, who has the potential to be next LD and LCW.... after LD and LCW retire, our badminton world maybe quieter ...we left few more years to watch these legends....

    .
    I also think so too.

THW has managed to defeat LCW before.

Don't have any record that THW has ever defeated LD before though.

    Tian Houwei defeating Lin Dan

    .
Thank you for the link, Mobc1990.

Quality of the video is rather poor, but we could still see the 2 players' moves/strokes/gameplay.

Next month?? i don't think so... there's only Thomas Cup in May.

Within Q3 2014 it sounds more plausible for Tian Houwei to climb to the Top-10.

    .
Could it be a surprise to find Lin Dan's not (with Tian Houwei in) at this coming Thomas Cup?

Probably, remember china needs someone to replace lin dan,China's match with absent of lin dan is bad, chen long form is erratic,DPY can't live up to expectation, wang zhen Ming play comfortably when the pace of game is slow but when game speed up he just can't catch up...so THW is one of the young stars to watch, but I would not say he could replace lin dan in china or LCW of Malaysia,he just had the potential!
