I tried doing this setup wooden handle -> electric tape -> towel grip. For some reason though, whenever the towel grip gets wet, that’s when the towel grip moved up or down the grip, revealing gaps or grooves in the handle.

I tried to do electric tape + masking tape to add a bit of surface roughness but I find that this setup makes the grip a bit too thick for my preference.

Any tips on how to address the towel grip moving up and down without having to add more layers onto the grip? Thanks!

EDIT: For some reason though, whenever thr towel grip gets wet, that’s when the towel grip *moves* up or down the *handle*, revealing gaps or grooves, *exposing the electric tape underneath* which does not make for a good gripping experience.

I wrapped my handles with regular Scotch tape (clear kind). The towels grip backing adheres really well to it with what I use

Have you tried a few strips of 3M double sided tape? There is a very thin kind.

I tried the Yonex nano towel grip that had no adhesive and just put vertical strips of double sided tape on the electric tape. You still have the electric tape under so its easy to remove after by removing and replacing the electric tape

Never did this but just cross my mind, maybe if you want to try it yourself to see if it works.

Use a snapped string before or after applying electrical tape. Roll the string wide but consistent to create texture thus increase friction. Then apply the grip.

I do something similar to both free core and wood (moisture could weaken wood) handles on my rackets.
Being Canadian, I use one layer of water resistant clear hockey tape over the wood. Then i apply over that, 1 layer of regular black cloth hockey tape. For the Canadian's wondering, no i do not use "Howies" branded hockey tape, but i should ask for a sponsorship LOL =)

Good Alternative:
1) duct tape - very strong and waterproof and seems most common here in Canada for players that put towel grip over it as it's mess free removal.
If handles break often for you when playing this would likely be the most economical solution as your base setup for all rackets.
