They will miss next year Summer OG, Russia (previously USSR) also didn't participate Los Angeles OG 1984 as they boycotted the event in cold war era. Russia is one of strong sporting nations, always standing on top 5 in Olympic medal table.

It's true though, it's a shame they didn't impose a blanket ban. I mean this is obviously the lowest any organization can stoop, even after repeated warnings, if not now, then when.

10 olympic days. Should finish group stage in 4 first days. Day 5th, 7th, 9th for double qf to f. Day 6th, 8th, 10th for single qf to f. So there wont be "if only lcw had 1 more day to rest"

Oh dear, ... no luck in either of the draws to purchase a ticket for the Olympics. It looks like I'll have no choice but to watch badminton on a screen, ...despite being in Japan. (Sob, sob!! :(:()

I knew someone that has a friend who "won" the multiple draws. But now he has to pay over ¥600k for all the tickets or get none at all.

Truly sorry to hear that. :(
Maybe the organizers will provide what in Germany is called "public viewing" (in exemplary idiot English :D ). Big screens in parks, maybe even in front of Musashino Forest SP, where everyone can gather and watch together.
This way, you could at least get some of the sense of occasion.

Wonderful idea! So I can get a shinkansen all the way to Tokyo, just to dehydrate in front of a screen in the sweltering heat!!o_O:D

But this is really incredibly disappointing. I have no idea why the Musashino Forest Sport Plaza was chosen for the venue, when it only seats, at maximum, 7,000 people. The way that tickets are snatched up at the Japan Open alone, should have prompted the organisers to choose a larger hall. Absolute amateurs.

Incidentally, the venue for the 2020 Japan Open (September 2020) has been relocated from Musashino Forest Sport Plaza to Yokohama Arena, ... because of its larger seating capacity. Great!

It's really high demand and enthusiasm following the increasing of badminton popularity in Japan.

So do you guys think Japanese got the tickets for the Olympics or foreigners?

The tickets for OG isnt cheap and from SF onwards its like a single session payment. Sure can get the ticket somewhere? Musashino is kinda big hall like AllEngland.

imagine you play tourney after tourney try to climb #1 to avoid other seeded in olympic. Then you in the group with some low ranking like lin 2013 long time no play or lcw, mota after lifted the ban or marin after acl recover

Does anyone know the details for Olympics tickets purchase, i.e. various costs, are they available to foreigners, and when/where to get them?

Each country has one authorised seller to buy Olympic tickets from. In India, it's Fanatics Sports Company. You can contact them and they will give you details about the package. I don't think you can get the tickets in a second hand market as reselling is not allowed.

As you can see, the Olympics isnt important now.

Japan is new epicenter. Health of the nations are more important.

I cant see why some players only care about OG. If you can win a title now, you should win it and keep it in a bag first.

At this rate, OG is just another title.

Mayoral candidate: London can host 2020 Olympics if moved over coronavirus
    Reuters 20 Feb 2020
London would be ready to host the 2020 Olympics if the outbreak of the coronavirus forced the Games to be moved from Tokyo, Shaun Bailey, the Conservative candidate for mayor of the British capital, has said....

With London having hosted the 2012 Games, Bailey said it was well placed to step in for Tokyo if needed. "We have the infrastructure and the experience. And due to the coronavirus outbreak, the world might need us to step up," he said on Twitter.

"London can host the Olympics in 2020."...

"Given the ongoing disruption caused by the coronavirus outbreak, I urge the Olympic Committee to seriously consider how London could stand ready to host the Olympics should the need arise," Bailey said in a statement.

"We have the infrastructure and the experience, and if I am elected I will make sure London is ready to host the biggest sporting celebration again, if we are called on in an hour of need," he said.

They can't move it... at worst it would happen behind closed doors, without any crowd/public with only TV coverage. Even with the monetary loss of tickets it would still be less costly for Japan than loosing the Olympcis (TV rights & media coverage would generate a partial monetary income).
