No spectator for Olympic Games, the biggest multi sports event of this planet??
If we reflected to SARS, there's possibility that COVID-19 would be faded away on summer.

Damn, Such is the severity of COVID-19. CRUEL than HIV ... HIV affected person prolongs his life using medicine, whereas COVID -19 affected person dies quickly. I pray god for the people of WUHAN. My sympathy goes to all the family members of the deceased.
I feel sad whenever the news of deaths in WUHAN headlines the newspaper daily.

    Got this from BBC news

Japan could be allowed to postpone Olympics to end of year, says minister

Japan's contract with the International Olympic Committee allows it to postpone the Tokyo games until the end of the year, Japan's Olympics minister was quoting as saying in a Reuters report
    .

"The contract calls for the games to be held within 2020. That could be interpreted as allowing a postponement," Seiko Hashimoto said in response to a question in parliament.

The Games are due to begin in July this year in the capital Tokyo

Just to expand a little on this:

Hashimoto was answering questions posed by the Budget Committee of the House of Councilors. She commented that:
    1. The final decision as whether to hold the Olympics is likely to be made by the end of May.
    2. In the contract concluded between the IOC and City of Tokyo, it is stipulated that the IOC has the right to cancel the Olympic Games "if the event is not held in 2020". This has been interpreted to mean that, provided the Games are held within 2020, the City of Tokyo has the right to postpone.
    3. All efforts are being made to stage the event in July-August 2020, as originally planned.

All sorts of logistics like would a delay mean refund on tickets. To be honest, most of the indoor sports can easily be switched to the Winter Olympics and from a public health point of view with the new knowledge now and past experiences such as Zika virus, that might actually be better. That’s a question for another day.

End of year (November or December)? It's autumn/winter instead of summer OG. We'll wait until May when final decision will be determined by IOC.

Thanks for the information, but I don't know this is a good news or bad news.

Hope we control the virus before Olympic

An interesting article by Stephen Wade for AP on the balance of power between the IOC and City of Tokyo vis-à-vis the holding of the Olympics has just been published. See ’Host City Contract’ gives IOC much leeway to cancel Olympics at https://apnews.com/7749e3fa1fd4a79348cde9077b6eba1b.

Yes, things are definitely looking uncertain.

none of that should be surprising if you think about who 'owns' the Olympics and controls all the money.

if they decide to go crowdless they better shore up their internet backbone to avoid crashing.

If IOC cancel the Olympics, it would be a massive financial loss for Tokyo. In the future, it would be give cities second thoughts about hosting an Olympic Games.

Historically, the Olympics were only cancelled in 1916, 1940 and 1944 because of the 2 World Wars.

That sounds like it is actually being canceled. Until it is (or not), let's wait and see. It is definitely threatened though.

it's already at that point due to the enormous expense of the licensing fee + infrastructure demands of the ioc.

2024 & 2028 were given to paris & usa because no other country bid for them.

historically the summer olympics have not been a financial or municipal gain for any small-medium sized metropolitan city except barcelona. other metro cities could afford their losses. the poor countries hoping to cash in lost their asses: mexico city 68, munich 72, montreal 76, athens 04, rio 16.

the winter games are even wor$e.

Were Germany and Canada classified as poor country at that time, 1970's?
