Interesting player selections from NBFR, fielding singles players in the doubles category and vice versa.

Does anybody know when Isabel Herterich changed her name to Lohau? Didn't see any kind of marriage related post on the usual social media sites...

It's not even that they're letting Nella play, she's literally the best we've got in WS. Just won the national championship last week. The MS was also won by a junior, 18 year old Joakim Oldorff, who beat Koljonen in the semis. So quite promising signs for Finnish badminton indeed, at least in the singles deparment. Hopefully you'll get a glimpse of Oldorff against either Thailand or India.

Is badminton gaining more traction in Finland in the past few years?

Not really. Loads of casual players, but badminton as a competitive sport is still quite unknown to the general public and there's almost no media coverage at all. It's been especially quiet in the last 5-6 years after Ville LÃ¥ng's and Anu Nieminen's retirements, as there hasn't really been anyone or anything to "write home about". Koljonen has been the first one in a while to get any attention at all after his BEC bronze. Hopefully we can get more of that in the next few years with Koljonen and the emerging youngsters. If even one of them could break into top-30-ish, it would be huge in terms of media coverage and growing the sport.

Yes,I did think that some of her shots were pretty good and she didn't look nervous against He Bingjiao, which is why I thought she had potential, though she lost. I didn't even know she was a teenager,I thought she was in her early twenties until I searched her,was impressed when I found out. I think if she keeps improving she can go far. I might watch her other matches if the timing permits. Quite curious about the male MS players now too.

    CHN v IND

~ Potential another clean sheet for defending champion, it's Srikanth who has XD role this time. CHN rests Wang/Huang to face the arch-rivals Puavaranukroh/Taerattanachai on Thursday.

    MAS v ENG

~ Expecting close battle in doubles categories, MAS has sure point in MS and probably through WS SEA Gold Medalist.

Well the Korean XD scratch pairing gave german pair a scare too. But they nearly messed up by not using SSJ/CYJ.

Yeah I want to watch Nishimoto play too :(. Why don't they broadcast his match on the BWF TV Youtube channel?

The XD match between Malaysia and England was quite tight. Malaysia managed to win in straight sets though, which I think is good, they played well

Considering the millions upon millions of online viewers, it feels very amateurish and "small-time" to not provide cameras for all three courts. We're talking about 3 freakin' courts. If this really is just a display of shortsightedness, it leaves one a bit speechless, actually.

Edit: And this is, of course, by no means something unique to this particular event. An oddly lacking video production has been an issue for some time.

Am I wrong that some countries didn't sent their best team or they just let their non-main players play some less important matches?

I agree, but if looking at the schedule from tomorrow and onwards only ct 1&2 will be used. After todays matches ct 3 will retire. So maybe it didnt make sense to have tv on ct 3 for only 2 days. (thay also put the expected least exciting match-ups on ct 3.

It was quite a close tie between England and Malaysia today...Malaysia was quite fortunate to have sealed the win after the first three matches otherwise the momentum might have been with England. But still, glad they won, hopefully they can keep it up.

That's what expected, a regrettable defeat for ENG XD where they're supposed to clinch this opening match, the key factor for their losing today, credit to MAS underdogs Hoo/Cheah YS.

    DEN v NBFR => https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/...1BD7E5BD-0C17-496D-B17F-F60CD04626C0&match=47

This should be a cracker, XD, WS will be tightly contested and determine their fate for Sudirman Cup campaign.
