    Yes you can.

Option 1 (the lazy one) : you only put 1 overgrip on the wood

If that doesn't suit you or is not small enough => Option 2 : use a rebate plane and grind the wood !

It's very difficult to maintain the relative shape of the octagon while making it smaller. Only thing I would use is a thickness planer or jointing planer.

cheers guys. I did take the original grip off and the wood is not exactly plain, its got kind of a plastic feeling coating, can this be planed still? I am assuming it is some sort of wood treatment, if i were to plane it or sand it down or something, would i need to reapply the treatment?

To do it properly is very, very time consuming. I'm a sucker for getting things as close to perfect as possible and decided to grind down my G5 grip on the DZS further. It is extremely thin now. If I remember correctly I was guesstimating the amount of time I spent on each side so it would come out relatively stock looking.

Will post a picture if I can. For the plastic part, you'll need to remove it (remains of the base grip I reckon or towel or anything that you used on it).

It was one of the carpenter's grinding tools IIRC. Not sure the name.

That's not going to give you a good result.

i end up using a very sharp pair of scissors and kind of scraped against to wood (like shaving). worked a treat. took about 15mins to thin down to preferred size

This is exactly how I also do it. It needs to be very smooth and non powerful strokes so as to not ruin the wood's surface.

The end cap can be reused... if you avoid shaving or thinning the last half to one inch of the handle.

Definitely fine and usable if it's a g5 to g6 transformation. Feels VERY awkward with a G4 to G6 however. I tend to keep a few caps lying around to put on the new handles because of it.
