Can someone explain the rule of sudden death in badminton scoring system. Is it optional or compulsory?

The way I understand it -

Play until a side reaches 21 points.

If there is a 1 point gap (21 20, 22 21 etc) then you keep playing until a 2 point gap.

If you make it all the way to 28-28, first team to 30 points wins.

Or it might be first to 29 points in that instance, I forget the exact number.

30 is the cutoff. If it's 29 all, whoever gets to 30 first takes the game.
