i'll be wary of the dreaded BC Poll jinx..but the last time i recall, LD got the most votes for the 2008 OG MS champ and he won Gold..

I suppose most people will vote according to their head or heart - the head uses reason and logic but the heart has its reason(s) which the head can never understand - regardless of what the poll asks.

My head says it's got to be Lin Dan, who else , but my heart originally goes to Lee CW except that his ankle injury and family problem force me to be a bit more realistic (you know, the heart cannot be completely devoid of reason as that will be dangerous and foolish), so now my heart goes to Chen Long.

As an ordinary mortal,it's hard, almost impossible, to be always rational however much I try. For this case, I let my heart rule and voted for Chen Long!

Lin dan is the clear favourite, but maybe the injury has taken some pressure of LCW and that could greatly benefit him...still, I'd say the odds are well in LD's favor.

I have followed badminton extensively for the last 3 years, and these are my thoughts.

As much as I want Lee Chong Wei to win, it is going to be Lin Dan.

Taufik hasn't beaten him since 2006. There is next to no chance he can suddenly do it out of nowhere.

A few dark horses exist, but when the stakes are high, Lin Dan seems to have a mode where he switches on and he can't lose. Santoso, Tago, Sasaki are not close to putting a dent into LD. Gade hasn't beaten LD in forever. Chen Long and Chen Jin know LD's game better, but LD can still win if he wanted to.

Honestly, Lin Dan didn't seem particularly strong at WC 11 when he gave a game to Peter Gade, but he still beat LCW in the end, which shows his dominance.

    _

Chen Long and LCW are equally good second choices. Chen Long is perfectly capable of beating LCW, even in the most recent encounter, the Malaysian Open, CL took it to 3 sets.

    on CL vs. LCW.

the last encounter between these 2 were in Malaysia Open in January. LCW beat CL in 3 sets.

the one before that was in SSF in China. CL beat LCW in 3 sets.

the last encounter in neutral ground was in French Open IN October. LCW beat CL in 3 sets.

the previous two was Denmark and Japan Open in October and September respectively. and CL won both in 2 and 3 sets.

interestingly though, by looking at the score progress in the French as well as Malaysia Open. the games that CL take, the points are close. for the games that LCW took, the scorelines are pretty far apart with LCW leading throughout the game.

very little separate the 2 at the moment. but from the ease in which games are won, i think LCW has a psychological edge over CL.

he he he julianng, i accept no satay as they aren't collectible, thus can't be donated to BC...

OTOH i believe consuming 100 satays will certainly blow up one's digestion system :D

enjoy your delicious satay but consume within your limit :p ciao!

Friend,it takes a brave man to bet against you, even for just 100 satay sticks. If you up the ante to 1,000USD or more, I'm confident nobody will take you on. Still, anything can happen in the Olympics as proven time and again, remember Athens 2004? Having said that, I must be a fool to take you on, I concede defeat even if the stake is just 10USD.

On another note, much as I'm a great fan of Lin Dan,believe it or not,I personally felt it's not essential for Lin Dan to win a second Olympic gold - he's practically won everything, conquered all the peaks, attained the accolade of Simply The Greatest as far as I'm concerned without doing anything more. So much so that I make bold to wish for somebody else to win gold, just to be fair, give others a chance. A case of too much of a good thing,if I may say so.:p Lin Dan's record is already unassailable for the next 20-30 years!:)

You know, how many good and great players were and are overshadowed by him, beginning with Taufik, the luckiest of the lot for having peaked earlier than Lin Dan's rise, the other main casualties being most notably Lee CW, Peter Gade, Bao Chunlai,Chen Jin,Lee Hyun Il,Simon Santoso,Sony Dwi Kuncoro, etc - you may add in other names you like. To me,Lin Dan's era is the Golden Era of MS badminton, even slightly outshining Zhao Jianhua's with Yang Yang and Morten Frost for company. (Purely my own insignificant view, not wishing to start a debate on this).

Exceptionally,I think Chen Long is going to be another luck guy, beginning to rise at the tail end of Lin Dan's era, with Lee CW also fading out soon.I won't be surprised this London Olympics might just be his moment of glory to signal his era is about to start.

If only Lee CW hadn't been injured, I'd have rooted for him to take this one,he's played second fiddle to Lin Dan for so long that I feel,to be fair, he deserves to go out with a bang. Alas, but who knows, some people are speculating his injury recovery may be a smoke screen,a well-kept secret, then give me another Lin Dan -Lee CW Dream Final; can't wish for anything more, can't get any better than that! Cheers!:D
