The tone of Tian Qing's message is one of resignation and regret. First, she accepted CBA's decision to drop her from WD at Rio as Zhao Yunlei has issues with doing double duty and the tournament schedule but TQ is mentally prepared for it. Of course, it's every athlete's aspirations to go to the Olympics, how can she not be disappointed. When she said it's not such a big deal not being able to go is because she had won gold at LOG'12, proving herself before. She sensed that her badminton career may be coming to an end, that's what made her sad; as to whether she could take part in the Olympics, she felt she had done her best, and there should not be too much regret. Right now, she just want to take a good rest and make plans for her life and work. If health permits, she would definitely for the sake of her province participate in next year's China National Games.
So much drama pre-Olympic with just the selection of the players. I hope the real matches would be more interesting than the pre-Olympic drama
I feel sorry for Tian Qing: somehow I have the feeling she had to prove herself much more compared to her partner. I'm glad though that she managed to win medals in many of the great tournaments. I hope she will continue to play after the OS. She is a terrific athlete and I personally rate her higher as a more complete WD's player compared to Zhao Yunlei. About the Luo twins, I don't think they will be in the same league as ZYL/TQ OR YY/TYT. It will be an interesting WD's during the Olympics, as I don't favour them to win a gold or even a silver medal. All that switching between players didn't do the Chinese WD's any good, while they have so many excellent ladies.
While Yu Yang is a proven liability. Luo sisters will consider a place on the podium an emphatic achievement. China loses a certain Gold or silver medal imo.
Zhao Yunlei can't do double duty anymore. She has many probs, injuries, stamina, personal affairs.. to name some. Tian Qing should not have been partnering with her after WC'15. IMO But who are we to think we know better than LYB?
Zhao Yunlei double Olympic gold was "lucky" considering she and Tian Qing lost their group match. I don't think she can repeat it. China might even not getting XD gold if she is playing both I think that's what in LYB mind
Yep, the way was cleared for them when Yu Yang and WXL were dq'd for match fixing. It was a rare once in many lifetimes alignment of stars for ZYL.
I dunno know about CHN WD chances but my bet is on the Stoeva sisters...even if they don't win, they sure look good...Go Russia Go
Lol Russia and Bulgaria, how ?? , No doubt they look good, any connection with the Veelas mentioned in HP series ??
The Luo twin sisters didn't make it to the knock-out rounds. LYB should have selected ZYL/TQ instead of the twin sisters. What was he thinking!!!
I never have confidence w/ the twins. CBA/WD coach too often make combo for WD. And in the end they have no reliable pair, even for one pair. My pick always to BYX/TJH. Yes, they have bad frame time, but all players/pairs always have that. Just give them more time to make any improvement, but their pair scrapped, just that. Irony if China fail in WD then.
SIgh, CBA screwed up big time in WD this occasion, a discipline they traditionally and are expected to dominate at the majors. By pushing their luck too far shuffling their WD combos even well into the OG qualification period, they simply failed to allow enough pairs to settle in and accumulate the requisite ranking points to be in the top 8. What a shame with so many potential Olympic champion combinations and in the end they didn't even get to send their two best pairs to Rio. After their recent performance in the run-up to the Olympics, I wouldn't rate Tang YT/Yu Yang as their No.1 pair and the Luo twins aren't even among the top 3 in CHN. I believe CHN can form several combinations of world-beaters from among the cohort of Bao Yixin, Tang Jinhua, Xia Huan, Zhong Qianxin, Chen Qingchen, Jia Yifan, Du Yue, Li Yinhui, Huang Yaqiong,Tian Qing, Wang Xiaoli(recall her from retirement), Tang Yuanting, the Luo sisters ( to be split), a perhaps one or two others whose names escape me. But they got to be formed much earlier to develop their game as a pair. It doesn't matter if CHN ended up with six pairs or so in the world's top 8, the luxury of choice is what's needed in the Olympic cycle. Anyway, all this is water under the bridge now. Pointless to talk much about it.
