Women's Singles
This is the 2nd strongest event after Women's Doubles for CHN, winning 4 golds & 5 silvers from the past 5 editions. The most recent loss came from Dai Yun to Camila Martin in 1999. Strong challenges are expected from overseas chinese players such as Zhou Mi, Wang Cheng & Pi Hong Yan, but CHN is still the favorite to win the title.

Women's Doubles
This is the traditional strongest event for CHN by winning 5 golds & 4 silvers from the past 5 editions. But recent defeats in China Masters & Philippines Open to INA & TPE pairs proved other countries have narrowed the gap & made WD more interesting to watch. With favorite still goes to CHN, can INA create upsets again?

Men's Singles
14 different winners from the past 15 editions since its introduction in 1977 with only Yang Yang (CHN) winning twice in 1987 & 1989. It shows how tough the competition in MS has been. Can LD (CHN) defend his title? Or is TH (INA) able to win it the 2nd time? Will LCW (MAS) become the 1st Malaysian to be crowned as World Champion?

Men's Doubles
KOR, INA, DEN, USA & CHN have won once each from the past 5 editions. MAS has put itself as one of the strong contenders this year alongside with CHN, INA, KOR & DEN.

Mixed Doubles
KOR, CHN, INA & ENG were the titlists in the past 5 editions. Kim Dong Moon/Ra Kyung Min (KOR) were the last pair to win twice & runner-up once, . Anyway, the titlist for this year should be among CHN, INA & ENG.

Talking about line judging, a mix of local and foreign line judges were employed. Seems to work, I hardly see any questionable line call. Maybe they should use this for all tournaments esp major ones.
 
The line judging in this tournament has been one of the fairest I ever witnessed. Very impartial.

Pity about the draft though.
