According to TV news, WMC has decided to retire from being a player. BAM President said they will offer her to be a WS coach for the junior WS.
All the best choo2. You did all you could to bring glory to the country.

This is kinda sad... I was hoping to still be able to see her in action.

Anyway, all the best to Choo Choo!

She could have at least go slow and continue until Sudirman Cup.

I hope this is either some elaborate April Fools prank, or she's going independent like eaglehang said.

Mew Choo to become a coach after calling it quits

SUBANG JAYA: Women’s singles shuttler Wong Mew Choo has endured physical pain for a long time in pursuit of her badminton career.

Yesterday, she finally decided to give up her battle against an endless list of injuries and called it quits after serving the country tirelessly for almost a decade.

But there is a consolation for Mew Choo. The 28-year-old is set to return as a women’s singles coach with the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

As a player, she will always be remembered for her sweet smile, steely determination and mostly for her efforts to boost the image of Malaysian women badminton with her string of unforgettable breakthroughs.

The most significant and outstanding achievement was her feat in winning the 2007 China Open.

Malaysian women shuttlers were tagged as cannon fodders against their counterparts from China but Mew Choo proved that nothing was impossible when she defeated a host of them to nail the China Open.

There were other firsts too – when she became the first SEA Games and Commonwealth Games champions after four decades.

Injuries, however, took a toll on Mew Choo. Despite the pain, she would always fight like a tigress on court and would not give up easily even when the odds were stacked against her.

Yesterday, the BAM took their hats off to Mew Choo for her sacrifices and contributions to the sport.

Said BAM president Datuk Seri Nadzmi Mohd Salleh: “Mew Choo sent in her resignation letter today and we have accepted it. The BAM wish to record their appreciation to her for her long and good service to the country.”

She knows that her time is up and we did not want to force her to play on. But we will offer her to be a coach for the junior team.

With the absence of Mew Choo, the strength of the national women’s team will be diluted. But Nadzmi hopes that more efforts will be put in to unearth new talents and improve the standard of the women shuttlers.

Meanwhile, Nadzmi also announced several decisions made by the council including their support for the “Hope and Smile” fund charity project initiated by Lee Chong Wei to help the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan.

“BAM will settle the stadium rental (when Chong Wei plays an exhibition match against Taufik Hidayat of Indonesia tomorrow at Stadium Juara) while the council members have collected RM15,000 among themselves for the fund.”

My first post on this thread.

Very sad to see a great competitor go. She has been outstanding, and a great example of huge fighting spirit. Always a smile on her face, always very sporting. Always conducted herself with great dignity. A great ambassador of the game, and for Malaysia.

    Her resignation is Malaysia's loss.
I wish her the very best.

She was not the most talented but Mew Choo was distinguished by her unwavering determination and selflessness to her country. In a sense she was quite "old school" and a lot of the prima donna up and comers (in both mens and womens) can learn from her example. A big loss for Malaysia indeed.
