World University Games in South Korea

What a way to loose the last point for Wang and Zhang. Controversial indeed.

Have seen this video couple times, last point should be "IN" and point for China. If argue for IN or OUT should be "IN'. If argue for KKJ touching shuttlecock definetly "NO".

seem Korea team take the clean sweep...

And they scooped all badminton gold here also tops medal table overall.
Jeon Hyeok Jin stole the show as he surprised his more favoured senior compatriot, Son Wan Ho to clinch gold medal, 22-20 / 13-21 / 21-17. Looks like Son WH is displaying off form lately after won HKG SS end of last year.

Kim Gi-jung/Kim Sa-rang defeated Wang Yilyu/Zhang Wen 21-16, 22-20... it's well-known that it's difficult to beat the home players in KOR due to some surprise factors.

But Wang/Zhang had got their mark beating Ko Sung-hyun/Lee Yong-dae in QF.

The overall medal tally is still very important to Asian countries especially when they are the host, and it is not difficult to enrol the best athletes in universities for the sole purpose of boosting the tally.

The Summer Olympics and Asian Games are the two most important multi-sport events for the Asian nations. I believe the Asians do not give the Summer Universiade the much attention or significance except perhaps the host.

The Korean university entrance examination and the Chinese Gaokao are reputed to be the most competitive and stressful examinations in the world. We have read of parents praying for divine intervention when their children are sitting for the said examinations. In extreme cases students are reported to have gone on drips to put whatever it is into their systems to keep themselves awake and focused when they are preparing for the examinations. Some of them become suicidal too.

It is good that many countries offer degree courses in Physical Education and Sports Management to their sportsmen/ sportswomen who are not that gifted academically. In this respect the Koreans have gone a step further. Many of their athletes who won gold medals are specializing in courses like Leisure Sports, Golf Industry, Judo Instructor Education and Taekwondo Education

First time I hear of such degree courses. Hmmmm......... Strange courses!

Thanks to Stamp Badminton who posted the MD Gold Medal Match on youtube, Zhang Wen's last shot was clearly, clearly in, well within the backline as shown in the replay, yet the umpire made an outrageous decision to rule it out much to the dismay of the Chinese coaches and players who protested in vain.

Yes, it is obviously IN. The linesman called it out and the chair umpire chose not to overrule him, I think.

Just checked and discovered that all the Korean players are doing sports related programs. They certainly train more than they study. No quarrel with their participation, though, since they are all university students. Discovered that some of the Thai and INA players are attending very good universities and China's Zhang Wen is reading criminal law. Triksakti University particularly rings the bell in me. It was the demonstration started by it's students that led to the downfall of a dictator wasn't it?

Yes, there were several students killed and the anger was finally big enough to cause the downfall

The umpire could not overrule the call if he didn't have a view of the landing of the shuttlecock.

The line judge shamelessly made the call without even pretending to focus on the base line he was accounted for:

Hey guys I was in the stadium as the line call happened and was able to document the reaction on my camera. I unlisted this video so the only way you can find the video is through the link (meaning you won't find it via youtube search)
