i think you can try this drug called "glucosamine chronditin"
it's good for your ligaments. and wrists is basically ligament too...

but try asking a doctor or something first

If the pain is only in your wrist, then it's a wrist problem. If the pain shot through your wrist and up your arm, you may have trapped a nerve.

    Re: elbow problem

    Dear Cheung:

    I recently have elbow problem.

Every time when I hit (esp. when exert force to smash) the birdie, the inner side and lower part of the elbow just pain.

Other then a long rest, as advised by my doctor, is there a quicker way to recover?

At present I use "Rub A535" antiphlogistine (with 13.3% Triethanolamine Salicylate) to rub the hurt part.

I am not sure, to use ice pack or hot water bath to help relieve the pain.

Thank you for your advice and suggestion.

    Do you have medial epicondylitis?

    Check out this thread

As I recall from memory, phlogistine was a substance proposed to be in air that spontaneously gave rise to life. A very famous french scientist (so famous that I forgot his name!) paved the way for demise of the phlogistine theory.
Dunno if that scientist played badminton but it unlikely... :)

You are rubbing a pain killer into your arm. Wether it helps heal the injury is debatable and unlikely.
Sorry, but you need to rest the arm for a while and try to work out if your technique (action and timing of particular muscle use) is correct.

Icing is always good for imflammation, however going to a hot tub is a good therapy for increasing the blood circulation for your whole body, thus all the joint will be more flexible.

    Thank you, Man.

To be more exact on my the hot water bath treatment part:

    i. I will just dip my elbow into warm to hot water for a few minutes ; or
ii. use a bean bag (this is sold in pharmacy store), reheat it in microwave and then to rest the elbow on this heated bean bag until the bag losses its temperature.

My physiotherapist told me to use hot treatment, but my doctor would like me to use ice treatment. I am confused.

    Marky,

Here's my understanding. You use both hot and cold. But here's the timing:

YOu first use COLD when you feel pain and have swelling. COLD would
help alleviate your swelling. You can use the same method to treat a twisted
ankle or a bruise, immediately after the injury. When you pain and swelling
(almost) disappear, starts applying HOT treatment, which would promote blood
    circulation.

    When you apply COLD treatment, try to do it as often as you can afford;
say, apply for a few minutes, remove and rest for 15-30 minutes, then repeat.
Same thing with your HOT treatment.

At this later point in time, you may also start incorporating some LIGHT
weights to help strengthening the adjacent muscles. The key is "LIGHT" as
the muscle strength would quickly degrade. After work out, apply ICE again. Repeat the process until you completely recover.

I had elbow and knee problems before. This approach seems to work for me...

Thank you Raymond for sharing your experience.

I think I will use alternate bath, cold and hot and according to your method. I hope I can recover soon.

The pain is really killing me on exerting force at certain angles.

Not sure if I understand you. In the first 72 hours after injury, you'd
apply COLD only. If you still have severe pain, perhaps it's better
    you stick with COLD.

    Re: elbow problem

    Raymond:

The injury is about a few weeks ago. It pains on the lower part and on the side that is near your body. There is no apparent swollen area nor pain persists near the elbow. It only pains on exerting force at certain angles (e.g. pressing my palm against the table). I understanding this is called Golfer's elbow (different from tennis elbow).

I use ice treatment yesterday, but I feel more pain.

I use hot treatment today, it seems soften the pain a bit.

I have a long way to go for recovery.
