Yonex ALL ENGLAND 2018 : Round of 32 - FINAL (14-18 March)

It looks like contact to me, but nearly impossible for the umpire to see it. A challenge/review rule similar to the NFL would be nice

It's funny how no one mentions that Lin Dan was the only player to push Shi Yuqi to 3 games in the whole tournament including the opening round blues

Even the God of Defence Chen Long, the Hardest trainer in the Chinese Camp, was left clueless losing out 17 and 15 to this young gem,

Lee Hyun Il for all his qualities was at the mercy of the scoreline difference which allowed him to make it respectable but even he lost in straight games.

Technically 10 out of 10, in his Physical Peak, Son Wan Ho, was just hopeless and his technique went out of the window hilariously in the 2nd game when the going got impossible.

Yet, the 34 years and 6 months old Lin Dan was the only one who was able to stop this 'Running Train' called Shi Yuqi and absolutely made him succumb in the 2nd game. I was astonished how much strength and belief in his own ability it takes to even think about equalling a 13 years young opponent, who is physically in another league, trains day in Day out, in his prime, one who is at his absolute best, let alone surpassing him and giving himself a clear chance to start from the scratch once again.

Absolutely mind shattering display of mental strength and Technical Quality by Lin Dan in this final, considering his age and condition to push this match to a deciding Game. Absolutely ridiculous performance if you ask me coz I know at 35....it's not the same as being a 24 year old in his peak, investing every second of the life to training.

I can only salute the ability of Lin Dan to withstand this outstanding Champion with sheer belief when we all say Shi Yuqi was just marauding the shuttle left, right and centre.

But not a single post from so called neutrals in these 110 pages that appreciates the fight which Lin Dan showed today.
Perhaps because he showed almost no fight in the third game? Lin Dan is the GOAT for sure - but he's not much of a fighter. Pathetic attitude in the final game for a 6 time champion.

I believe if the match were played in the early rounds up to QFs, Lin Dan would come out on top just as he did against the redoubtable LCW. I suspect after beating LCW with aggressive play, Lin Dan was 1/3rd if not half spent, and then Huang Yuxiang pushing him to three games in the SF stretched him thin to half spent force.

In the final, had Lin Dan taken G1 instead of losing it narrowly, 19-21, he might have a better chance of beating the top form and much improved Shi Yuqi, perhaps in two straight games even, who knows.

Nevertheless, take nothing away from Shi Yuqi who played excellent throughout the tournament, disposing of the likes of Lee Hyun Il, Chen Long, Son Wan Ho and Lin Dan, to crown himself All England Champion, a highly prestigious, top tier tournament that many top players are gunning for.

Or just that you are not honest enough to accept the magnitude of the fight he showed in the second game.

It's like Yamaguchi closing her eyes to the Badminton Tai Tzu Ying played in the second game , and THEN EQUALLING HER AND THEN USURPING HER.

Imaginable ? No
Possible ? ****ing Hell Not
So because he fought hard in the second game, it's OK to give up in the final game? I have a tremendous amount of respect for Lin Dan, but IMO he tends to give up or at least lose his will to fight 100% for everything, when things are not going his way. That's how it looks in my eyes. You're free to disagree, but I'm offering you some perspective as to why his fight is not being acknowledged more.

You're comparison of Lin Dan/Yamaguchi and Shi Yuqi/Tai Tzu Ying is hilarious by the way.
