Yonex Open JAPAN SS 2015 : The FINALS (13th September 2015)

The most dramatic final match is none but MS, what a superb comeback by Super Dan, trailed behind 3-11 then he stayed calm to catch up and topped podium at the end, Axelsen must be disasppointed to waste such big opportunity, well this is the toughest match for Lin Dan here beside first round clash against Son Wan Ho.

Two thirilling finals also happenned in XD and MD where both champions, Fischer/Pedersen and Lee YD/Yoo YS respectively needed extra point to seal the victory. We'll see another turnaround in WD when Zhao/Zhong took 9 consecutive points for triumphant over Danish pair.

Okuhara extended her head to head against Yamaguchi, she dominated whole match particularly game 2. A maiden Superseries title for Okuhara, more and more young players bag gold medal at top tier tournaments :)

Next stop, Seoul for top badminton actions ;)

Wow, the Danes extend their H2H record over the apparently great Z/Z 10-8. How can Z/Z be the greatest if they can't even dominate a pair of their generation? (In tennis, Nadal is arguably one generation before). In fact, this Danish pair aren't even that "great" - pretty sure they've never even won a major?

If you compare their records, Nadal outscores FedEx in every count bar slam count. I don't consider either GOAT, but I do consider Nadal more than twice as good as FedEx. Even Nole will end up surpassing Fed in the end. Too bad Bud Collins and BenRothenberg coronated Fedex so soon, at just 4 slams

Perhaps if they win Rio 2016 and win the next 3 matches against the Danes. Then they will be complete.

On the other hand, Lin Dan has to be the GOAT - he's got no genuine holes I can think of. The only thing is that he's never won in Malaysia and has never won an Indonesian tournament, despite participating in a lot of them. But those are very minor things.

Fewer AEs than Hartono

Saina Nehwal.......who cares what I care?

Nine Tailed Fox We all do and this compatriot is at times taken aback the amount of devotion you have towards the illegal occupiees of Aksai Chin and claimants of Arunachal.

Well, there is no boundaries in Sports as far as I am concerned.....I support, what my heart support.......I hate, what my mind hates...If I give the list of all the sportpersons I support...You would be scratching your head...

Nine Tailed Fox would love the list. We all would have pretty Cosmo, global lists I am sure. Maybe it calls for a chitchat thread. What say kwun ??

Seem to get a common theme with Federer's supporters too.

The difference is that LD supporters can and should relax. He's won everything that matters multiple times over, and has a positive H2H against everyone that matters. The only thing that matters for him in the next 12 months is All England and Rio. All this is just match practice/fitness for those majors. Doesn't matter if he wins or loses these.

Well even Rafa supporters are pretty dismayed since 2011

Hehe, say what? Carolina Marin is already a legend, even if she retires now. World number 1, two-time World Champion and All England Champion. No need to reserve praise.

Impossible to disagree, even for those like me who have progressed from the mute button to the power button

That was my point hehe. Carolina Marin is a bigger legend than most already. The fact that she's from Spain arguably makes her the biggest legend. But it's all about perspective and opinions I guess.

IMO her antecedents barely matter, results do. If place of birth were to be considered, then maybe every Faroe Islander needs to be considered in the GOAT hers just for turning pro for a week.

Viktor Axelsen on Lin Dan:

“He played really well when he was down,” said Axelsen. “I struggled to find high pace and to get the attack. His lifts were of very good quality and that made it hard for me to get anything to work with. He played some good counters and some surprising shots. I tried to attack, but his shots were of great quality. He played a more clever game, didn’t do many unforced errors.”

Men Single Final Lin Dan vs Viktor Axelsen was very world class to watch
