Read from Msia Daily Newspaper (http://www.chinapress.com.my), Zhou Mi is now in Malaysia helping WMC for one month. Will she like to coach in Malaysia in future? :)

Zhou Mi went to Malaysia to learn from Li Mao and YKH has requested her to become sparring partner for WMC. She will stay in Malaysia for one month and YKH hopes WMC could capitalise on this opportunity to learn from her.

I find it surprising that Zhou Mi wants to learn from Li Mao. As reported in some of the earlier threads here in BF, Li Mao's emphasis is on pace, coming on as BAM's high performance coach.

Considering Zhou Mi's knee injury, I am afraid it might be suicidal to train under a coach whose personal emphasis is on pace.

Then again, maybe Li Mao emphasized pace because Malaysian MS players are most lacking in this department. Perhaps he is really good at tailoring training regimes for players suffering from chronic injuries? (which brings to mind Wong Mew Choo's knee injury, and the fact that she now trains under Li Mao).

Maybe Li Mao not only focuses on the many paces and changing paces on court, but also the pace of the strokes.

It was him i believe stated in the papers saying Lee Chong Wei needed to increase the pace (or another word) of his smashes or shots.

Does the report indicate that Zhou Mi will be representing Malaysia? Personally I doubt that, and I also doubt that Zhou Mi will return to the China team after taking advice from Li Mao, since LYB (who would have final say on ZM returning) is not on best terms with LM.

Maybe Zhou Mi is simply there to spar with WMC, and pick up a few tips before moving to Europe or elsewhere?

If it is not too much to ask Ykh should also include Julia Wong and Lydia Cheah.

It didn't mention that ZM will represent msia and I doubt she is able to do so. I think she is only in msia for a short period and may go back to China later. Personally, I like to see her taking up a coaching job in msia since we have some potential young WS players, like Julia and Lydia. Her experience could benefit them a lot.

China’s star Zhou Mi to spar with Mew Choo

KUALA LUMPUR: Former women’s world number one Zhou Mi of China is in town. And that's good news for Malaysia's Wong Mew Choo.
The Chinese player is going to be Mew Choo's sparring partner as the Malaysian prepares for the World Championships in Madrid from Sept 18-24.
MONTH-LONG STINT: Former China’s world No. 1 Zhou Mi is here as a sparring partner.
Yesterday, Mew Choo began her one-month sparring stint with the 2004 Athens Olympic Games bronze medallist at Gymnasium Two in Bukit Jalil.
Besides Mew Choo, Malaysia will also be represented by M. Sutheaswari at the world meet.
National chief coach Yap Kim Hock said that Zhou Mi would continue to train in Malaysia under national men's singles coach Li Mao.
And she may well represent Malaysia in the future.
“Zhou Mi left the Chinese national team last year. She was down with knee injury. She is training on her own now. She has asked to stay here and spar with our women's singles for a month,” said Kim Hock.
“The BAM (Badminton Association of Malaysia) have agreed to it.
“The quality of her play is still high. Chinese women’s singles players are always known for their prowess and it is good for Mew Choo to spar with her.”
BAM president Datuk Nadzmi Salleh said they were open to the idea of hiring Zhou Mi either as a player or a coach.
“At the moment, we have agreed with Zhou Mi to a one-month training stint. But we are always open to ideas,” he said. If Zhou Mi plays under the Malaysian banner, she will be the first foreign woman shuttler to do so.

glad to see that Zhou Mi is still in the news. she was one of my favorite players.

as for playing for MAS, why not? US can hire foreign players, so can MAS!

But the US is not a major power in Badminton with a strong team. MAS is, It would be a serious admission of failure by the BAM to have to bring in a player who was not developed under their own system.

Bringing in foreign coaches is common for most badminton nations except INA and CHN, but bringing in foreign players is not.
