Just like the old days, San shines the brightest at last for the Indian badminton. Proud of her achievements.
Malaysia added another gold when she won the WD. CHOW Mei Kuan/HOO Vivian defeated England's SMITH Lauren/WALKER Sarah, 21-12, 21-12.
Not having (the funds) to compete in much of the world tour, it seems that the ENG MD has really been practising hard -- Marcus Ellis has so much variety in his shots now (half-smashes. back-hand drives, etc.); even Chris Langridge isn't "acting/directing" so much now that they have worked out practically all of their rotations and combos...vs the IND MD, who have probably only 1/2 of all the moves and shots of the ENG MD. Too bad I miss the ENG vs MAS MD semi-fnals -- THAT was probably the "real" MD Final match...
Today's Individual Finals results: MS Chong Wei LEE (MAS) beat Srikanth KIDAMBI (IND) 19-21, 21-14, 21-14 (23 min 21 min 21 min) WS Saina NEHWAL (IND) beat Venkata PUSARLA (IND) 21-18, 23-21 (22 min 34 min) MD Marcus ELLIS/Chris LANGRIDGE (ENG) beat Satwik RANKIREDDY/Chirag Chandrashekhar SHETTY (IND) 21-13, 21-16 (16 min 23 min) WD Vivian HOO/Mei Kuan CHOW (MAS) beat Lauren SMITH/Sarah WALKER (ENG) 21-12, 21-12 (21 min 21 min) XD Chris ADCOCK/Gabrielle ADCOCK (ENG) beat Marcus ELLIS/Lauren SMITH (ENG) 19-21, 21-17 21-16 (22 min 20 min 23 min) So MAS tied with ENG with 2 titles each, followed by IND with one.
India at top because of two Higher ranking medals than England. Malaysia needs to strengthen up its WS side as it seems theres no competitive player from their womens single side. Even at finals it was Gilmour and Li and as expected Saina and Sindhu dominated.
The Adcocks defend their XD gold medal also Vivian Hoo with different partner this time. Both Saina Nehwal and Lee Chong Wei reclaim CWG gold medal. Ellis/Langridge produce excellent job once again in multi-sport events after nailed Rio OG bronze medal.
Good to know LCW avenged his defeat on Srikanth for the individual CWG gold. Impressive for a 35-year-old living legend.
All finals are on BBC iplayer but I don't know how people outside UK can watch it https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/live/commonwealth-games/43506282
Commonwealth gold medal does not count much vs. Olympics & Asian Games and Thomas Cups. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
You mean on youtube? This is because the Commonwealth games is actually a big thing where Commonwealth nations buy up the broadcast rights -- Americans/youtube can't be guilty of stealing intellectual property, right? See if you can find it through one of your local/regional broadcasters, because it is a classic "cagey" match where 2 top players try to keep their nerve and outfox each other -- I wish LCW was 10 years younger so that I can watch LCW battle it out with Srikanth Kidambi for another decade (and because Chen Long/Shi Yuqi are pretty boring to me)...
Thanks and liked Ant, really frustrating the last week trawling Youtube for any footage but no joy what so ever., BBC's coverage is a disgrace. Edit: now on Youtube.
Looks like someone else did it before me, best to download it before it gets taken down. Also, the WS was actually good to watch.
Yes, i happened to pop in after my last post and it was barely up an hour, very good game, SK made too many errors.
