yes but as in any marketing, sony knows having old lens around is still an advantage. It reduce initial cost to use a full frame dslr, 'it get their foot to the door'. That is why sony didn't wait to sell A900 body now without supporting 'new' lens that would come later.

geez, didnt know 50D would cost that much.
I think the D90 is still better bang for the buck and suit a wider audience.

    that's because 50d's competitor is d300, not d90. just as 5d2's competitor is d700.

I was a wuss, I got a D90, and very nice it is too.
That should keep me happy for a couple of years, then I'll look for the next-gen of FX

Recent price drop in HK for body only 50D from 10,000HKD to 8,700HKD. That's pretty quick.

    Need quick input..

..(from the photog masters in here):p:

A friend of mind saw a used Canon 1D MKII (Body only) for sale @ $1250.
He's also thinking of getting a brand new Canon 50D (Body only) for around $1100 to $1200. Both are around his budget.

However, he doesn't know which one to get after looking @ a few criterias:

    The 1D MKII has:
    1. A bigger sensor
    2. A smaller Pixel density, 1.5 MP/cm² (supposedly should make the image output better). *I heard these 2 are the most important.
    3. Already more than 30,000 shutter actuations (still relatively low)

    The 50D has:
    1. Higher Pixel resolutions
    2. A faster USB transfer rate (480MB/second)
    3. Greater ISO range options

Which one should he get for use in action sport??
    Thanks.

    ^^Hmm..hmm..hmm..^^

    ..that's a pretty tricky question and choice..:p

Well, personally, i'd choose the 1D Mk II simply because, for that price (@ $1250):
    1. It is a pro camera body & it is somewhat close to a full-frame camera (crop factor of 1.3x) than the 10D-50D models
    2. Although it doesn't have the latest & greatest DIGIC III processor, it has a 45 AF points in comparison to only 9 AF points for the 50D.
    3. Eventhough it's a used one and has more than 30,000 shutter actuations, the image quality is very good and AF speed is still fast.
Of course, the downside is its weight and tendency to collect dust (which can be cleaned semi-manually)..

Anyway, my friend decided to purchase the 1D Mk II...:)

i don't know if there is a programme to cheat the shutter count! but if we are talking about 30000. that number is relatively low!
chris, just forget about the digic 3 processor! the one that inside a mk3 is hopeless!!!!
