True, she doesn't seem to be getting sent with the A team. She was in India and Singapore and the Asian Championships but she hasn't gone overseas since then. She and Yoo Yeon Seong are playing mixed in Taipei next week, though, and yes, she is still on the national team.
I don't think there is a player who is more unpredictable than Eom Hye Won. Not crazy unpredictable but in terms of badminton shots. It's good to have her back in the game. It's so much fun to watch something different, to guess how EHW is going to play her next shot.
I'm so impressed by the qualities of Eom Hye Won! As Gill Clark put it beautifully last China Open; "she is such an understated player." Couldn't agree more with that observation. The skills and touch of Eom Hye Won are superb.
Given her audacious plays, I wouldn't call her "understated". Since she looks like a frail old lady who can hardly keep her back straight, she may be overlooked at the first glance. That is, until she starts to move ......
Eom HW is, for me, one of the stronest women in XD, far better than Kim, who I find too passive. Eom and Yoo are going to be devastating - I'm expecting an All England semi-final, at least.
What's the story with Eom Hye Won? Can anyone shed some light on why she gets on and off competitions?
Eom Hye Won has been playing in the spring domestic tournament over the past week and she was certainly selected for the national team in the selection process in December. She has had recurring injury problems in the past but that doesn't seem to be the reason for the rest these days. Head Coach Lee Deuk Choon said a while ago that Eom would be focussing on mixed and since he said that, she has playing WD in exactly 5 tournaments with 4 different partners. Keep in mind that her mixed partner Yoo Yeon Seong had to play the All England or face a fine, even though it was right after his wedding. Not so for the world #43 Yoo/Eom partnership. Yoo hasn't played any other tournaments this year, even though other top Korean players have. We could well see things get back to normal once the Olympic qualifying period starts.
Agree. You should see her dress up and all make up!! KILLER..............So does the other Korean ladies player.
She never stopped playing. She won the Osaka International and, as mentioned here, she will be back in the Superseries at the end of the month, playing with Choi Sol Kyu in a partnership that will continue to the Indonesia Open the following week.
