However, I need to note that Indopos misinformed us today: Suryanaga defeated Djarum 5-0, it said. Well, the truth is 4-1, like what Kompas and the other newspaper quoted.
about foreign players joining the Superliga Krisna, I agree on you on this issue. If Indonesia wants to improve the level of badminton, it should focus first in its territory and try to develop the "grassroots" players ideally at an early age. Try to get more corporate sponsors to help fund the training both locally and internationally like in China. Adding foreign players will not guarantee that the level of play will most likely to elevate. Always remember that Indonesia was once (and still is) a powerhouse in badminton but your badminton warriors are being outclassed by China (like in the Sudirman Cup 2007 finals) and other Asian neighbors like Korea, Malaysia and Japan in other tournaments as well. Take note that in the sport of badminton, just like tennis, the retirement age comes early.
True, adding foreign players to the Superliga is no guarantee that our INA players will become better. But it is guaranteed to increase the level of play and increase the uncertainty of the overall club vs. club results... Which most likely means more viewers and sponsors... Oh, by the way the shuttlecock used by this tournament is RSL. He he he
Wow, exciting stuff! Thanks for all the updates guys, really appreciate it. I don't suppose anyone can put any of these matches up for download? Thanks again! Joe P.
Krisna, Thanks for your updates on the Superliga! It's a disappointment that badminton in the Philippines do not get enough support from the government. Locally, club tournaments do not offer an attractive cash reward for winners. Aspiring national players do not have the luxury to train abroad (except for a selective few). I just hope we can have a "Superliga" here someday.
Sunday, June 24th evening day update: Women Jaya Raya vs. Mutiara Bandung 5-0 Djarum Kudus vs. Suryanaga Surabaya 5-0 Men Djarum Kudus vs. SGS Elektrik Bandung 3-2 Suryanaga Surabaya vs. Tangkas Jakarta 4-0 so far... Ng Wei and Tommy Sugiarto are playing in their last rubber game... I wasn't around in the afternoon, but according to the www.superligabadminton.com Women SGS Elektrik Bandung vs. Ratih Banten 4-1 Tangkas Jakarta vs. Bina Bangsa Jakarta 5-0 Men Jaya Raya Jakarta vs. Mutiara Bandung 5-0 Musica Champion Kudus vs. Ratih Banten 3-2
In the Women Division, so far... Tangkas have won three in a row, collected 15-0 record Djarum have won three in a row, collected 15-0 record They will meet tomorrow at 6:30pm... We will probably see: Wang Chen vs. Maria Kristin Yip Pui Yin vs. Maria Elfira Yuan Kartika vs. Rosaria Yusfin Pungkasari Jo Novita-Endang Nursugianto vs. Meliana Jauhari-Shendy Puspa Vita Marissa-Lili Natsir vs. Purwati-Yulianti My prediction: 4-1 Tangkas, with the only loss coming from Yuan Kartika in the hands of Rosaria Pungkasari... But who knows, Maria Kristin defeated Petya today. Convincingly! In a lop-sided straight games... She might stretch Wang Chen a little more than before...
Tonight, we saw an interesting SGS Elektrik doubles combo: Taufik Hidayat-Flandy Limpele! - The last time these powerful smashers appear was in the 2004 National Championship... They played well, powerful backhands by Taufik, powerful firepower from Flandy... but in the end, the composure, persistent pressure, and shot-variety of the experienced doubles specialist: Luluk Hadiyanto-Mohammad Ahsan of Djarum defeated them...
i'd like to see taufik play doubles.. i think he is already slow for MD... he's naturally a singles player... videos pleaaaseeee..
Give it to Taufik! During the game, the audience were saying "Give it to Taufik! Attack Taufik!" At one point, Taufik complained to the umpire. Before the umpire reacted, Luluk & Ahsan already signalled "quiet down please' to the crowd. They probably didn't want to see any ugly scene... like a few years ago ...when Taufik threw a punch to a very irritating INA spectator... In INA we are allowed to make all sort of noises before they serve, during the point, during the smash attacks, during a long rally, anytime... And then we can shout out bla-bla-bla... without the umpire notifying us... Hahaha... From time to time, you will hear very very unfriendly comments, though... Mmm, such as: "Go back to the village and just farm, boy..." Ha ha ha... That's when a Taufik type player can erupt...
As there is very little information from the internet. I am trying to put the standings based on limited info i get from this forum. Please correct me if i am wrong. Maybe Krisna knows the details, super liga news in sport-page of daily newspaper has very limited space. And via internet, OoO it's totally very slow to update last result because no live-score facility.
wow.. i just read Suaramerdeka.com that maria kristin beat Detya N with straight sets 21-11, 21-11... that's cool... she need to be more consistent....
Petya Petya arrived with a slightly injured shoulder. The RSL shuttle is very slow and the hall is really humid with very bad aircond. This make the shuttle even slower and her elbow worse. And after she play to 3 sets with Wang Chen she has no more power in her right arm. She has been taking medicine and treating with ice. Hope she will be better soon. She is such a nice lady.
