All-England champ Chong Wei happy with current situation in training programme
By LIM TEIK HUAT and KNG ZHENG GUAN

SEPANG: Lee Chong Wei wants to hold on to his status as the world No. 1 ranked singles player heading into the London Olympics next year. And he is ready to do it with or without coach Misbun Sidek.

Chong Wei, who returned home early yesterday morning after a successful defence of the All-England title in Birmingham, is coming to terms with the possibility that his long-time coach may not return to take charge of him.

Misbun handed in his resignation letter to the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) at the end of last year and Chong Wei immediately expressed a desire to leave the national team too if his coach was not persuaded to return to the fold.

Despite efforts made by the BAM, including their president, Datuk Mohd Nadzmi Salleh, to coax him to change his mind, Misbun has kept mum on his future undertakings.

But Chong Wei has softened his stance and is now comfortable with training under Tey Seu Bock, who was previously assisting Misbun.

“If Misbun comes back, it is certainly good news for me. But if he doesn’t, I’m okay with it,” said Chong Wei, who has held the world No. 1 ranking since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

“I have no problem. My only concern now is how I manage myself and stay in focus.

“I have bigger tournaments like the world championships in August and the Olympics next year to look forward to. I’m fine with the current arrangements. I will continue to give my best shots to bring back good results.”

After receiving a warm welcome home by Nadzmi upon arrival at the KLIA, Chong Wei and the shuttlers later paid a visit to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak’s offical residence at Seri Perdana in Putrajaya.

The visit over a breakfast of nasi lemak and teh tarik saw Chong Wei being presented with a gift of RM100,000 in share bonds by Najib for his triumph at the All-England.

The BAM patron, Datin Paduka Seri Rosmah Mansor, who is Najib’s wife, also handed him a watch. She also expressed the hope that Chong Wei will be successful in his mission to bring back an Olympic gold medal for Malaysia.

Chong Wei chalked up a convincing 21-17, 21-17 win over Olympic champion Lin Dan of China in the final last Sunday to retain the All-England title and he said that it was a psychological boost for him.

“I lost to him in the South Korea Open final in January but felt that I had narrowed the gap then,” he said.

“But after this win, I believe that little separates us. It is our performance on the day that matters now.”

Chong Wei will take a break from competition before going for the India Open Super Series tournament next month.

I hope that this year at this 2011 India Open Super Series tournament, LCW will stick to nasi lemak and teh tarik for his meals.

I think BAM will be sending Malaysians to cook for him this year. :p:p:p

How about "roti prata"? Should be quite common in India, though by a different name.
But I guess anything to do curry to be best avoided.

I commend LCW for taking a positive mental attitude (PMA). It now shows that he has become psychologically stronger and can rely on himself to deliver the goods. This augurs well for his preparation with London Olympics 2012 as his ultimate goal and gold for MAS.

If he succeeds it boggles the mind what sort of presents he would then receive.

What i see after aprils fool day:D

What will be in the press is exactly here :D

Thanks Chris for the thread's title :)

'Misbun is working for malaysia badminton without bam' :D

He is slowly guiding chong Wei from behind to adapt to training under tsb and the trainers

without him physically in the court of course :)

with the recent all England win, it has just been proven it works :D

and I think chong Wei has accepted it now :)

A fact we all should know, misbun has given up his career for Malaysian badminton

because he knows Malaysia needs an Olympic gold badly.

And the only chance is through lcw.

He isn't selfish to negotiate with bam and drags further

as he knows it will eventually disrupt the once in a lifetime chance for lcw

and also for Malaysia only hope for Olympic gold :)

    I truly salute him:)

    P/s

Bam, do your part - your last call to bring misbun in and not the other way around :D

    Misbun wishes to help LCW

    .
    It's ironic isn't it? I see it this way;

    * LCW wishes to have Misbun back
    * Misbun wishes to help LCW
    * BAM stands between them

Politics do a lot of harm sports. :(:(:(

I don't know who is playing politics now.

BAM has offered MS to coach LCW only and only MS to coach LWC. MS need not have to coach other players and other coaches are not to coach LCW. What it means is the two will be attached to each other at least until London Olympics 2012. BAM also gave MS whatever assistance he needs including the services of the sports science specialists, yet MS is playing "hard to get". :D:D:D

Now LCW has come out to say he will accept whatever arrangements by BAM for the national cause. He did not now demand that only MS to coach him. What it means is that even without MS, LCW will do his best to cooperate with BAM so as not to interfere with his preparations, including training under TSB. Now if LCW does well it will benefit TSB as a coach, just as it has benefitted MS. ;)

After retaining his AE crown, LCW shows self believe by saying he is equal to LD and the form of the day will determine who will be the winner. LCW has gone a notch up in mental strength and when he strengthens this department further, LD will find difficulty in beating him as before.

So MS can go (I thought he's already gone) but LCW will stay to wave the MAS flag! :)

Yes misbun is gone.. on paper... the tricky situation is.. BAM is worried that his absence might affect LCW in some intangible level. hence the drama.. they could have just let things go its natural course and let MS do his own thing. Concentrate on LCW, proceeding with the program..

so a little credit to BAM in.. for at least giving it a try, and get Misbun back.. at least they can say 'we did try our best'

Yes I think BAM has gone out of its way to accommodate MS but MS is giving them the thumbs down, which is disturbing.

LCW has shown the way by reconciling with BAM and the situation and doing the best he can. In the midst of all this "toing and froing" he was even able to subdue LD in the AE. But he needs to settle down quickly and not be distracted by the "MS-BAM politics".

If MS is really interested in LCW's welfare he should make a definite decision without any further delay to allow LCW to go about his business of becoming the Olympic Champion.

Funny, paper said LCW still need MS, but then in thestar, it stated “If Misbun comes back, it is certainly good news for me. But if he doesn’t, I’m okay with it,” said Chong Wei, who has held the world No. 1 ranking since the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

    Which is which?;);)

Till now, da man(misbun sidek) has yet to sound out anything yet...
Perhaps he needs more time to take care of his ill wife...

    Malaysia BOLEH...!!!
With or without coach Misbun, LCW's main focus is WC2011 and OG2012... ultimately, OG2012 will be his last chance to win the first GOLD for Malaysia... We (outsider) don't know if coach TehSB's coaching style more suitable for LCW so we can only hope for the best outcome in OG2012... BOLEH?

    Life goes on, doesn't it?

Misbun is interested in LCW's welfare but politics is not as simple as that. With the Sports Minister's intervention, if say no, cannot. If say yes, also cannot as some of the BAM committee will make life difficult for Misbun.

Remember Misbun sat in coaches chair during MO 2011 at LCW's request?
Anyway, Tey SB seems to follow closely to Misbun's prog(so he says) * has great respect for Misbun, I guess he would carry on guiding LCW according to Misbun's style.;)

Hi eaglehelang, Are you following the 2011 Swiss Open?

You may be pleased to know that Ong Jien Guo/Chong Sook Chin (MAS) have just defeated Chris Adcock/Imogen Bankier (SCO/ENG) 22-20, 21-14 in 32 minutes.

Hi Chris, thanks for the update..as i wasnt following the Swiss Open at all..just found out by google the koreans grab the top places..wah, they seem to be getting stronger in each passing tournament..anyway, congrats to their formidable team.:)

Just happened to be searching about Misbun's departure and i found this thread...man, is it long or what? I just read the first and last page tho.... :p

Sad it shld turn out like that...but still glad that Chong Wei managed to clinched the All England...pheee-uh!! it was so tense to just sit and watch it on TV!:D...personally, i really hope LCW will just win everything this year...hehe...and yes, also beat Lin Dan, his good ol nemesis, flat in all future encounters. (Sry China people and fans:D...no offense here k?)

I think LCW has somewhat mature more in character with Misbun's leaving...glad the turmoil made him a better player and not otherwise. Hope Misbun will still be a coach and a loyal supporter of LCW behind the scenes tho....

    With warm regards from Malaysia.:)

Frankly, I don't see how BAM committee can make life difficult for MS without damaging themselves since MS has now got the backing at the highest level.

If MS manages to help LCW win the Olympic gold, BAM will share part of the credit by leaving MS to his own devices. This must certainly be of utmost importance to the country. Remember, PM Najib personally telephoned LCW to congratulate him for retaining the AE crown and it implies that if LCW is assisted by MS to do better, woe betide those who dare to mess up the arrangement that can detract from the main goal.

If BAM should interfere further, MS will have strong grounds to put them in their right places. If I were BAM, I should stay by the sidelines and offer whatever assistance that MS may require.

So what more is MS asking?

In 2010, when LCW won the AE, he also had lunch/dinner with the PM & wife right after he came back from England. Did it stop some of the CTC members? None at all. Misbun still had to take the heat.
Perhaps Misbun is saying enough is enough with all the years of putting up with the politicians.

I feel it is different now. The AE is history. The big one is the Olympic gold medal, the glory that will bring happiness and pride to MAS and further gell its people. The PM made it a point to call to encourage LCW to do better and the target is London Olympics 2012 where MS is expected to do his part without further interference.
