Watched him and Geh play the Indonesia masters MD final against Kido/Fernaldi... For being such a small player, Kevin is incredibly fast around the court covering the rear and even front. Even faster than Ahsan! Being only 19 or 20 yrs old, he has a great future ahead.
I think Kevin needs a new partner. Kevin is will be come a great double player in the future but his defense as superb but not his partner. Fast around the court and powerful smash. His serves were great to see Kido and his partner being trick by Kevin a few times
Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo picked up another title with Selvanus Geh at the Babolat Bulgarian IC 2014 (target accomplished), shortly after finishing runner-up at the Indonesian Masters 2014. Next week, we will see him and partner ranked at the top 40. They are also quite likely to progress to at least QF of the Dutch Open GP 2014 next week, where an old foe Huang Po Jui/Lu Ching Yao (H2H: 3-0) or their compatriot Ronald Alexander/Edi Subaktiar (the opponent they beat easily today) will await them. I can see them progressing to yet another Final if they can overcome their QF opponent and another GP title looks quite promising for them. If they can become back-to-back champions, then, a year-end ranking of just whiskers away from the top 20 looks like a safe bet?
Too bad they lost to Phi pair today. They're still very young and already show some potential.....i am glad PBSI send them to many tourney....they really should gain experience and groom their potential
KS is definitely the bright future of Indonesian MD, he reads the game so well and has the characteristic Indonesian "smart placement" play, I'm sure he can continue the legacy of champion players like CW, TG and HS with the right partnership.
KS is still too raw. I hope he is playing more like Hendra Setiawan than Koo Kien Kiat at times. KS is indeed fast.
But his skills and game sense is already there, just needs more experience to be able to withstand tournament pressure and improve mental confidence.
The question is can this guy continue to excel in badminton? I think that he has a lot of talents stored in him and hope he will excel in future tournaments. All the best.
On the contrary I find his shots very innovative after watching him play in the ongoing Singapore Open. imho he deserves a better partner than Gideon who's committing most of the errors.
I haven't seen his SO matches yet. But in the past few tournaments he has been making very very bad shot choices that reflect his age and experience. But he is clearly more committed to the MD discipline compared to his XD with Polii so that could be a major factor for his improved play.
Trying to revive this thread after almost 5 years! Now, Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo has indeed proven himself to be one of the best MD player in INA, winning a SS title at the tender age of 20! These are his achievement so far since playing in senior tourneys in January 2014: Vietnam International Challenge - 2014 (with Selvanus Geh) Bulgarian International Challenge - 2014 (with Selvanus Geh) New Zealand Open GP - 2014 (with Selvanus Geh) SEA Games Team Event - 2015 (with Markus Fernaldi Gideon) Chinese-Taipei Open GP - 2015 (with Markus Fernaldi Gideon) Malaysia Masters GPG - 2016 (with Markus Fernaldi Gideon) India Open SS - 2016 (with Markus Fernaldi Gideon) That's 1 SS, 1 GPG, 2 GP, 2 IC, and 1 Team-Event titles. I hope these achievements will motivate young Kevin to improve even further and become a World Champion in the future! He is not going to the Rio Olympics 2016 but he will be at a prime age of 25 for the next Tokyo Olympics 2020 with whoever he's going to be partnered with!
By the way, is there any one of you found that sometimes Kevin can be a little bit "insulting" to other players during the match?
The way Tan Wee Kiong snubbed him at the end of their SF wasn't right but I can honestly find it completely justified personally. The way he intentionally swiped at the air for shots clearly out is just down right rude and lacks any professionalism as an athlete. I have lost all respect for him despite how promising a player he could be.
He is young, professionalism comes with age and experience, so hopefully he will mature in his game and his behavior.
