So I got my N50 III today. First impressions are good. Have used it for 3.5 hours today so far. Feels much easier to move than my Yonex Voltric 7 which I've been using up till now. Makes the voltric feel like a baseball bat. Having to get used to slowing my smash down as I'm miss hitting it just now. Paintwork is beautiful, love it! Only annoyance is the bag not having a handle. Not to worry, gives me an excuse to start using my yonex multi-racket bag thing. Couple photos:
I just finished my first session with the N99. I'm impressed! Very very fast for its weight and bp (298 mm) just like the N50 III, but stiffer. It's not even medium in my opinion, it's stiff - not ZF stiff - but stiff. That's why you have pinpoint accuracy on pretty much all shots and the head is not lagging behind on fast, short-swing shots, which was an issue for me with the N50 III. Power is good - not as easy accessible like with the N50 III, but the power maximum is higher. Feel is good, but as it was stiffer than I expected my stringjob (No. 3) was too tight for me. I will probably reduce the tension by 0.5 kg or so next time. It's not forgiving at all if you mishit (maybe due to the Li-Ning string), that's what distinguishes it from the N50 III, which is a very easy and forgiving racket to use. + gorgeous looking racket + extremely fast for a 3U/298 mm racket + pinpoint accuracy + lots of power - price - not forgiving (because of the stiffness) Any comparison with a racket I've owned or still own is possible; feel free to ask.
Hi Robert, That was an impressive review. Thank you for the effort. I had a few questions: Is the stiffness same as victor tk-9000? How is it doing defensively?
How does it feel compared to the N90 and N90-3? I'm looking for a lighter racquet for doubles. I have the n90-3 but I can't get use to it. Would the N99 be a good replacement for the N90 for doubles?
Well, it's been a while since I've owned the TK 9000. If I remember correctly, the N99 is a little less stiff, but not by much. Defensively it's doing great. I've been playing singles mostly yesterday, but the few doubles I played I got most of the shots back when defending.
Not sure what you mean, but I had no problems with control/accuracy. Backhands were great as well. Only thing that wasn't accessible right from the start was easy power (compared to my go-to N80).
Well, the N90, N90 III and the N99 are both 3U and have the same overall weight. Only the stiffness and bp's vary. What don't you like about the N90/N90 III? Still I think the N99 is a good all rounder (almost master of everything) for either doubles and singles.
Haha, this guy is asking the right question. Control: N99 > N80 Max. power: N99 > N80 "Easy power": N99 < N80 Speed: N99 > N80 Feeling: N99 < N80 Stiffness: N99 > N80 Balance point: N99 > N80 Wether it will replace my N80 as a go-to in the future remains to be seen...
I like the N90 I am just curious for future reference if the N99 would be a racquet to go for when I decide to use a lighter racquet. N90-3 I used for a month or so and I am not consistent with it.
Hey, what else should I ask the perhaps biggest N80 fan on this planet?! Interesting ratings though. Wonder what it is that makes the N80 so special in your opinion.
Good question. I think it's an almost perfect synergy between excellent feel, good speed and good power.
