Most court shoes (for badminton, volleyball, squash, indoor tennis) are non-marking shoes. They usually have flesh coloured soles that do not leave a mark on the floor when you drag the shoe. Places that have matted
badminton courts usually require non-marking shoes because they don't want their mats to get dirty.

Outdoor or running shoes usually have dark coloured soles and will leave a mark on a matted floor.

To check, the colour of the soles are usually the first way to check. Light brown/brown (most of the time) means non-marking shoes. Also, try on the shoes and u would find that it has this "stick-on/rubbery" feeling while u walk. That is a non marking shoe suitable for badminton since it provides the necessary grip during play.
