IBF may or may not own the rights to Olympic events. from the link "You decide! We're asking badminton fans to vote for their favourite matches of the last 25 years, with the matches polling the most votes to be shown on a new DVD to be released by IBF later in the year. All the matches have been taken from IBF events – the World Championships, Thomas Cup, Uber Cup, Sudirman Cup and World Grand Prix Finals. This has been necessary in order to allow us to produce a DVD in accordance with your favourite selections."
there must be some better MD than 2001 WC, even in just IBF events 2003 WC final Candra/Sigit v Jonas/Lars 2000 TC semi, Candra/Sigit v Eriksen/Larsen 1999 GP final Tony/Candra v Ha/Kim 1997 WC semi Ricky/Rexy v Cheah/Yap 1997 WC final Candra/Sigit v Cheah/Yap 1992 TC final Razif/Jalani v Hartono/Gunawan 1992 TC final Cheah/Soo v Ricky/Rexy and more...
The matches which may not mis : -Rudy Hartono (Indonesia) vs Punch Gunalan (Malaysia) in 1974 All England MS Final. 1st game won by Gunalan, 2nd Gunalan took a lead by 14-7. But Rudy Hartono won the title in 3 games. -Rudy Hartono (Indonesia) vs Sven Pri (Denmark) in 1975 All England MS Final. Sven Pri broke the continuty of Rudy All England record. -Candra/Sigit vs Tony/Halim in All England 2001 MD Final.
Damn. I thought they're going to release all 12 matches in a DVD set. This makes it even harder to vote because I want to see them all!
No way, mate. Vote for match #10: Dai Yun vs. Camilla Martin. I want to see that. And Han doesn't have it in his DVD collections!
we need to define 'greatest match'. Is it - the importance of the match? - close match? - display of talent superiority? - record of some sort? (longest match, longest rally, quickest match, etc) or what % weighting do one put on each of the above measuring factor?
Personally, I wouldn't put match 11 on the list...so one sided. You can almost predict the outcome before it was played. Otherwise, the rest are all great matches...wanna see them all.
MATCH 9: Sun Jun (CHN) v Peter Rasmussen (DEN) 1997 World Championships: Men’s Singles Final i agree with morten
My top two of that list are: MATCH 9: Sun Jun (CHN) v Peter Rasmussen (DEN) 1997 World Championships: Men’s Singles Final MATCH 10: Dai Yun (CHN) v Camilla Martin (DEN) 1999 World Championships: Women’s Singles Final
I think no need. Everybody has their own definition of 'greatness'. The match with most votes is the most popular. If you start to define greatest match, you will certainly exclude some votes..
Match 9: Rasmussen vs Sun Jun. Vote for this match, it's legendary and with the performance and work rate of the two players is just sensational the match being the longest ever recorded adding up to a total of 2 hours (roughly!). And the incredible defience off all odds by Peter Rasmussen coming back to take the 2nd game (which was well deserved) and being the 2nd Dane to take the title and going against the odds of the usual Chinese domination. I will be voting for this match without a doubt.
If I have to chose then it's Peter Rasmussen v Sun Jun But to be honest - Xia v Kenneth in the 2003 worlds is the greatest match I have ever seen in my life
MATCH 7: Zhang Ning (CHN) v Mia Audina Tjiptawan (INA) 1994 Uber Cup Final 14 year old Mia deubts against 19 year old Zhang Ning in front of 11,000 screaming Indonesia!
