Lin Dan i think will definitely retire after the olympics as he has won everything on the circuit. Taufik and Peter will also probably give it one last try at the olympics purely because they can.

Great chances to younger players . Unfortunately, with their age and with much injury that both Chen Jin and Simon Santoso have carried over the years, I feel that these 2 might miss out getting into our WORLD TOP 3 rankings. But of course I could be wrong. .

I think LD will retire after OG12. LCW might be coerce not to because of a lack of top notch successor. Taufik and Gade are just cruising and I don't think they really give much thought to it unlike LD or LCW who probably might've given the thought of bowing out on top (for LD, bowing out w/ an OG12 Gold means more than ranking points.).
if you include all sports, one could immediately think of Justin Henin in tennis, yet she retired not only with WR#1, but also with a handful of Grand Slams titles. However, in badminton, i doubted if one just retired with WR#1 without winning a WC nor OG would be that much as a highnote... how do you feel if Zhou Mi retired when she was WR#1? What I would consider as real highnoted retirements are: - Lance Armstrong, retired in 2005 after winning his seventh Tour de France in straight(thereafter TdF was also called Tour de Lance... ) - Michael Jordon, retired in 1993 and 1999 both after winning 3 NBA titles in straight.. vitually these 2 could be said to be retiring as No.1 sportsperson (with vivid achievements) in their sports, and not necessarily an Administratively WR#1.
Justine Henin retired as world number 1 in women's tennis . I don't follow Tennis as much. But I remember the reason for Justine Henin to retire was because she was suffering from fatigue (physical and mental). And also the sad split from her husband, Pierre-Yves Hardenne, could have also influenced her to take life in a slower pace. And Justine retired at the age of only 25. In Badminton, more top players are Asians. Their family life could be more supportive, not troubling the players as much as, compared to the Westerners. .

I don't think money is the determining factor . I don't think money is the determining factor. I think it is how a player enjoys his/her sport which is more important. Many players continue with their sports because they enjoy participating in them. Whether they are good at them or not, it's never of importance. .
IMO, Professional players continue playing their sport for one or many reasons. They know only one way to earn a livelihood because they never had an opportunity to do or learn anything else. So they continue for as long as they can on the pro circuit, and then maybe on the seniors or masters circuit. They continue playing because they are very very good at the sport, and it gives them great pleasure do do something at which they excel, and they love it when millions of others love watching them play. They continue playing because there is a drive to prove something, either to themselves or someone else. They continue playing because their parents forgot to tell them to stop!

There is another option for LCW to choose though; that is to play as an independent player like his good friend, Taufik, and his former teammates, WCH and HH. If I were to poll if LCW will retire after the 2012 OG, I would poll 'No'. If I were to poll if LCW will retire first (before LD), I would also poll 'No'.
