Hi guys Well I was looking around for ages for some grips from Carlton, alas, they were boring and either black or white. So I decided to go with Karakal (so I know I have a Carlton Racket/Yehlex Bag and now Karakal grips...but....so what?! ) I received them in the post today, having a day off was giving me grief as I had nothing to do, so I settled down and had a go at it on my own.... I know its a little bit uneven, the finishing tape they provided was pants, so I used some insulating tape and sliced down the middle making it thinner ( I had a look at the how the original grip had been applied to the racket) and found it ALOTeasier to apply to the top of the handle. It took a while and the cogs of my brain were proper churning, but in the end I got it
I always use some standart black tape for the top of the grip. The tape provided with grips are horrible. :-/ Putting new grips on my rackets are really turning into a obsession for me. I feel I can always do little better.
Yeh I felt like that a bit earlier! Yeh the tape wasn't very flexible and it wound me up very quickly lol...
Grips are generally cheap...so once you find the grips you like...stock up so you'll never be without a grip whenever you want to change it.
Not bad for first timer, the overlapping is a bit uneven. U can always redo the grip until u r happy before u apply the finishing tape. as a rule of thumb I tend to overlap 50% of the width of new grip when I go round.
Just wrap the handle with the grip they way you like it first and then cut off the excess. If you're unsure...just leave room for error and trim away. Use the tape to hide the imperfections of the cut.
If its a single grip, Don't precut the grip whatever you do. Roll the grip up as high as u want it while applying even tension. check the overlaps, then cut it once u r satisfied. Trim again the end bit so tht it's wedge shaped to prevent the grip sticking out at the top end. Likewise do the same for the tape.
Charlotte i think u did a good job... as per everything else in badminton practice makes perfect.. u get better after a few more re-gripping.. if need..ask yr fellow players...to advise or help.. happy gaming.. cheers
Not bad for the first try. Make sure you start off the butt end right and the rest of the handle will turn out perfect. Make sure to start with the wide end of the grip first, then when you reach the cone you won't need to cut or trim. Also apply even tension as you rotate and wrap the grip around the handle.
Here's a nice video on applying overgrip (tennis in this case). But technique is very similar. For badminton, I find doing a 50% overlap makes the handle more comfortable and easier to do ie follow the slight bump around. That way the overgrip always ends up perfect. Also, instead of starting on one of the corners like the video. You start on one of the the biggest flatside like what you have already done ( from what I can see from your photo) . http://www.tennis-warehouse.com/LC/video/replacegrip.html
Yes I did do this, I think from all this amazing help and advice next time I do it it should be spot on - I played with it last night and it felt SO much better!! and everyone loved the colour! its alot hotter pink than in the photo.
hey, if you want any more give Eric a try. I've had loads off him. Great service. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/squash_mart/m.html?_nkw=&_armrs=1&_from=&_ipg=&_trksid=p3686 Rich
here is a good example of the 50% overlap. http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=97941&d=1305572834
