I need to improve my smash for my upcoming varsity tryouts and I need to know the fastest way to improve my smash.
Well, to improve your smashing technique you'll need to know what's lacking in the first place. Are you not getting enough angle? Not enough speed? Keep hitting the net? If you're looking at making the bird go faster, I've experienced that practicing the right time to grip the racket handle a great help. This is probably the fastest way to get a faster smash. If you've got time, working on your swings and pronation will help too. Getting a good position, loosening up before the swing, transferring the energy into your arm then your wrist, pronate, and then the grip and follow through. Many things come towards getting the shuttle to the ground, but personally I find the right grip timing the fastest way to improve your power. The rest will take some time to grapple. Oh, and also.. get a coach.
there is no short cut. please watch these videos. www.bwfbadminton.org/page.aspx?id=19996 if you think there is short cut (or if you try to take short cut), it will take a much longer time to unlearn your mistake.
in my opinion, you should not train yourself to have just a superior smash. go do footwork training; the increase in your level will be much greater than if you have a slightly stronger smash. but to answer your question, to get a stronger smash, get the correct technique (others have posted on this). then get crazy with weight training and other fun stuff which idk how to do
carry weights, have firm hands to hold at the right time. body flow should not be 'robotic'. and try to hit the shuttle at the highest point u can reach, dont wait for it to go down and smash... just my 20 cents opinion...
