Today we received quite shocking rumor. Starting 2013, there would be no major sponsorship for Indonesian nationals / team. PBSI (Indonesian Badminton Association) has granted permission to the players to choose his/her personal sponsor. Almost 80 athletes of Indonesian first tier and second tier are in the middle of negotiation process with various sponsor, amongst others, yonex, lining, victor, babolat, charlton, astec, flypower, and many others badminton vendors. We shall see these changes within the near future. One of the hugh rumors are Tontowi and Liliyana opt for Victor, whilst the recent Malaysian MD Winner, Hendra and Ahsan stick to Yonex.
Well I never liked the idea that the whole national team has to stick to one sponsor for individual tournaments. The apparel for team competitions however should be uniform. Maybe some of them will sign with adidas.
The tweets might not be in English. Interesting how much higher the value of total sponsorship would be when there is no exclusive 1 single sponsor. Anyway, expect to see many brands on INA team jersey(only 1 sporting brand per player, I guess but many other companies' brand)
All right......YES!..it was a break thru that first time PBSI decided not to have collective anymore..1st batch was only for our elite players...players were nervous as well as official as we had no idea if it would work...if not? What's the back up plan...anyway only 6 vendors showed up..Li Ning, victor,Yonex,Astec, specs and Flypower....babolat, Carlton, apacs,rs may show up on 2nd batch bidding..
First was Lyliana Natsir....if natsir didn't get the highest bid...it is a sign forvthe rest of the day...Astec and Flypower did not bid as they know the value of natsir....shockingly Victor put highest bid and followed by second round...the number is up and natsir chose Victor....
*very* interesting. so it was held like an auction with each vendor putting up bids? Victor will be doing very well with part of its feet in Indonesia as well.
instead of having the player spending their own time and stress dealing with the vendors themselves, bring the vendors in and have them fight for the players in a open venue. with a bit more work from PBSI, it helps out the players without the negotiation process and they will get the best return. very smart.
