How should I incorporate this into my smash? Many people talk about this, but I don't know how to physically do it. I think my arm stroke is pretty decent and I am able to get to back to the birdie, and my wrist snap is there to give me a good angle on my shot, but I still can't that extra oomph that I think comes with the body rotation. Could someone tell me how I should practice this or do it and put it into my smash? I want that extra power to give me a killer stroke Thanks~
In golf coaching we were told it's your right hip you focus on to drive your body rotatation (for a right hander). I just used that principle for badminton and it works fine as long as i can get the racket head square at impact (something i'm seriously struggling with at the moment for some reason). Just focus on getting said body part swung round towards your target.
I would say practise getting more air time in your jump, that way you can enable a larger body rotation in the air
It seems easy to say, but hard to accomplish. Maybe I should go practice with throw footballs But then, who does a jumping football throw?
Small hint: learn to walk before learning to run. Meaning learn to smash properly first before you learn jump smash.
Don't bother with jump smashes until you have all your weight contributing to your regular smash. In order to do this easily without even thinking about it, just make yourself get even further back (an extra couple of feet behind the shuttle). Once you are really really far back, you will have to reach really really far forwards (as high as you can) to even hit the shuttle. By doing this, you will have used all your bodyweight during your stroke, but all you had to do was get further back and try and reach the shuttle! Tada! Magic. Once you can do this successfully, and can jump and "hang" in the air, you are ready to jump smash. Good luck!
