For smashing or clearing, should the elbow extend out first before swinging the forearm? or should both be at same time in a fluid way?
I think after because that's how I've seen some videos teach it and I think it should give more power since you are isolating focused power, but then I 'm not sure. I was just watching myself in the mirror swing just now and i noticed that i do two movements almost at same time (like swing my forearm forward and seeing my elbow follow through with the momentum).. however it feels more comfortable and the swing seems bigger and more fluid than the put elbow out first then swing . So i don't know which is better and why one is preferred over the other. What's the answer?
Watch the slow motion videos of smashing on youtube. Also, take 200 hundred shuttles, stand on the baseline and throw them, one at a time, to the net. Basically, try to get the shuttles to reach the net. If the shuttles can reach the net (normal speed shuttles), you don't need to ask this question.
Don't worry about it. Just practice hitting using the correct grip. In a few years time, you will be awesome because you can just let your body work out how to do it. Good luck!
the answer is yes... as a matter of fact, for all power shots ie smash, clear, drive, always lead with elbow first... always just remember the following sequence of movement and power transfer and you'll learn the right technique: elbow - forearm - wrist - fingers
Thanks for the advice! I guess the grip is more important to focus at on this point. Maybe the elbow thing is just a small thing. However, I try next time on the court to see if the shot feels any different.
