The tournament will kick off tomorrow (10.00am, using 5 courts) with qualifying round. Defending champion Akane Yamaguchi will once again crawling from qualification as she did last year. One name that should pay attention in this round is reigning Olympic Champion Lin Dan who will take on local shuttler Kazumasa Sakai. Local heroes are more motivated after their Thomas Cup triumphant to win titles at their homesoil. Most of badminton fans will wait classic rivalry, another episode of MS dream final after Guangzhou 2013. The latest withdrawals according to ts.com update : Sony Dwi Kuncoro (INA), Brice Leverdez (FRA), Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka (INA), P.V. Sindhu (IND), Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN).
I'll be looking forward to Akane Yamaguchi's progress! Though I think it will be quite a breeze for Lin Dan till Semi-Finals, it will be interesting to see how other players will fare against him. Everyone will be keeping an eye on him to see if he is still a threat to their paths.
Interested in seeing LD back at the SS level again. Hopefully he can get back into the SS circuit top8, as is his stated goal.
It baffles me that a defending champion( akane Yamaguchi need to go through qualifying stage, plus it is her home soil. Speaking in term of promoting badminton, it just does not make sense.
It will be very tough for Akane Yamaguchi to defend her tittle this year as she will meet LXR in the very first round if she qualifies for the main draw. But Akane has the surprise factor on her side as this will be the first time they meet. I think LXR will win but I'm rooting for Akane to create an upset here.
Do you seriously think so? The official sponsor is not yet announced so even if he uses Adidas products, there will be no logo whatsoever. How can people know if it's Adidas or not without the logo?
don't underestimate the power of badminton fans/spectators about sponsorship, i thought is announced that he signed under Adidas? or I might heard it wrong???
yes, you are right, just read thru his thread.... you can see all the hype generated so far on which brand he will carry
