Srikanth (IND) Well, last day of group stage who will determine top two position of each group. Some players/pairs who have bagged semifinal ticket : Chen Long (CHN), K.Srikanth (IND), Saina Nehwal (IND), Tai Tzu Ying (TPE), Akane Yamaguchi (JPN), Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (DEN), Misaki Matsutomo/Ayaka Takahashi (JPN), Zhang Nan/Zhao Yunlei (CHN), Joachim Fischer Nielsen/Christinna Pedersen (DEN), Liu Cheng/Bao Yixin (CHN). Son Wan Ho and Wang Yihan retirement have made less competition for other participant. Hot fave Lee YD/Yoo YS surprising lost by Chai/Hong is creating interesting development in MD Group A. China WS miserable outcome continues as Wang YH out of competition and Wang SX suffered second defeat and slim chance for her to advance to last four. INA also has bad fortune in Dubai as their two remaining representatives booked another losing yesterday. The knock-out stage draw will be conducted tonight after last match is concluded according to BWF SS Finals regulation => http://www.bwfbadminton.org/file.aspx?id=550414&dl=1 3.1.3 Immediately following the conclusion of the group stage there shall be a randow draw to determine places in the knock out stage (semifinals). The two group winners in each event will be separated.
I'm Wang Shixian's die hard fan but in all honesty, I would rather see her losing today so that she can go home and have a break. She has been looking so tired lately and continue to play only risks injuries and not doing her any good. Even if she somehow magically manages to advance to the SF, I don't see her winning this tittle competing with all these in-form and on-fire ladies. I hate to say this but I hope she lose today so that she can comeback stronger next year.
I think it's still not clear who would be progressed from MS group B.. https://www.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/draw.aspx?id=FCFA59B0-E42A-4A3D-AD04-71202212EF81&draw=5 If JOJ wins against KS, and KM wins against TS, then the three players KS, KM & JOJ will have 2 wins each from 3 matches, and I'm not sure, how the qualification would be decided...
Total games comparison and if it stays the same then using difference between points will determine who's grab semi ticket For example, check last year's MD final standing of SS Finals : http://bwf.tournamentsoftware.com/sport/draw.aspx?id=2510DC60-0441-49B2-A6F4-A99A07F530AA&draw=8
So in MS Group A , chen long and Hans kristian vittinghus got qualified for knock out stage after hans' victory over kenichi tago today (since sonwonho retired, the victories of Hans kristian vittinghus and kenichi tago wont be taken for consideration).
Oh.. So first the number of games won is counted first, (or is it the difference-in-games-won-lost, taken ?) And if that is also same, then the highest point-difference will be taken [PointsTaken - PointsLost]
This situation arises only when all the players have 2 wins. Ok. First let us take srikanth. He has 2 wins with 4 games in his favour and he lost one game totally. If today he loses in 2 straight games and both jan and kento wins their respective matches in straight games, then srikanth will be eliminated because the other two will have 5 games in their favour. Whereas if srikanth wins it in straight games(even I want that too in order to avoid this situation), then no doubt he will proceed further and the second position will be decided between jan and kento provided kento has to lose the match in 2 straight games. In that case both jan and kento will have 1 wins . The second position will go to jan because jan will have lesser number of lost games than kento. If jan loses in 3 games and kento loses in 2 games then selection would be based on number of points. Note.... WHAT HAPPENS IF TOMMY RETIRES TODAY ?.. OMG... we have to redo our calculations.... hmmmmmm
So only thing that is guaranteed is, that a Group-Winner can't meet another Group-Winner in SF.. The draw is taken so that to decide, whom will a group-winner takes -- 2nd-Position from same-group or 2nd-position-from-other-group. Only one pick will be enough to determine for any category. Draw ={ Same-Group-2nd , Other-Group-2nd }
Wang Shixian loses the first set which means she won't be able to make it through to the SF even if she goes on to win the match. OTOH, if Sung Ji wins in straight sets and Bae YJ beats Saina in straight sets, there'll be a three-way tie at the top and points difference will be taken into consideration.
I felt inclined to agree with you - she just lost G1 horribly to Sung JH, 7-21. Even in her match with Saina, she wasn't able to dictate the rallies with her placement shots more often than not; on the whole, a lackluster performance for her in this tournament. And, unfortunately, for WYH it was reported she suffered a back injury, an old ailment of hers. Luckily, there's no tournaments for them the next two months or so, just the break they needed to rest, recharge and regroup.
