    Hi folks,

Just been to a training course in London with a coach from Bad Assc of England.
He told us that Usain Bolt pose is no longer taught and instead to 'make a square, with elbow raised, in preparation of an overhead shot.

    Is that the case?

The use of Usain bolt pose, is the preparation when you drop your elbow below your shoulder. Just like Bolt poses his famous pose for photos.

Usain keeps his forearm roughly along the line of his shoulders which would look quite strange.

Preparation and elbow height, yes - roughly level or a bit below the shoulder level. Most people prepare the elbow a bit too low unconsciously thinking its higher than it really is.

I don't think this is anything new though.

Make a square? Do you mean the elbow bend at 90 degree and shoulder stay horizontal?

yes. We were told it's a newer technique that Badminton of England has adopted. Elbow does not fall below the shoulder.
