wrist strength when watching matches and hearing commentart on tv about the top pro's, there is often mention of their incredible wrist strength. How do they get this wrist strength? What type of training? I have seen people mention using a squash racket when training as a method, is this advisable and what shots will it primarly help with? Cheers Mark
Re: wrist strength This 'wrist strength' is actually forearm strength. The wrist has tendons but no muscles of its own to speak of. the squash racket is a good idea. some people try a tennis racket but one runs the risk of injury unless arm is exceptionally strong. try clears, smashes, & drive drills with the squash racket. Wrist curls (not bicep curls) and forearm rotations can help. I suspect that some of this strength that is spoken of is not brute strength at all. The "strength" comes from being relaxed & using biomechanically sound stroke production. Excellent timing helps too.
strength arm and wrist!!!!!!!! hi all, does any know how to strength arm and wrist? thanks, for regard!!!!!!!
Re: strength arm and wrist!!!!!!!! For wrist and finger strength: squeeze a tennis ball repeatedly. Or a piece of modelling clay. Strong fingers are important. There are also specific wrist trainers, but they work in the same way and the tennis ball or clay variant is actually better. Forearm strength (household variant): Fill up an empty 1 l or 1.5 l bottle with water and put the cork on. Grab the bottle by the throat, like a baseball bat. Position your forearm on a table, support it with something soft but firm (arm on pair of rolled-up jeans work good), and start rotating your wrist left to right slowly. Try to keep your elbow and arm as still possible so that only the forearm muscles work. IF you're in the gym you can of course use a dumbbell or similar instead of the bottle. You could also use a tennis racquet if you have one.
Re: strength arm and wrist!!!!!!!! arm - nothing beats doing push-ups! wrist - for starters, use an old racket and put the head cover on and grip it as per normal and just swing it around real fast.. if you want you can do fake smashes/clears with it too... when you are stronger, fill a glass bottle with water and put on the cork and put your elbow on the table and rotate the bottle SLOWLY only using your wrists. hope this helps...
Re: strength arm and wrist!!!!!!!! Of course, you could also fill a glass bottle with water and put on the cork and put your elbow on the table and rotate the bottle SLOWLY only using your wrists.
Re: strength arm and wrist!!!!!!!! Alternatively, you could fill a glass bottle with water and put on the cork and put your elbow on the table and rotate the bottle SLOWLY only using your wrists.
Re: strength arm and wrist!!!!!!!! Depending on yr muscle tone you might want to start with a smaller bottle and work up to a 1 liter full of water, just to make sure you don't injure yrself and set yr timetbl back.
Plastic ball Once i saw someone with sort of plastic ball with the size of a tennis-bal, containing an inner part, which is another ball to be rotating very fast, that initially can be spun off with a cord. By wrist movement, you can get it moving harder and harder, he said when the inner ball spinned very fast, it would be equal with lifting 70 lbs or so. I tried it and it felt very funny, but it felt like it would thengthen your wrist very good also. The person said he bought it at some sort of trick/toy store. Till now i haven't found it anywhere. Does anyone know this article, or have any experience with it ? Also i would be very happy if someone knows where i can buy this thing !
yeah, i have tried it in a store and know one guy who has one. It cost around 25 C$. Personally, i prefer free weight.
This is called "Wrist Ball" and can be easily found in HK and China. Perhaps you can check with Luxis as well.
