Does anyone have any tips on playing a sliced drop that goes straight but looks like a smash (it looks like it's going to go straight but goes quickly to the net and then dies). Do you slice over the top of the shuttle? What does this mean in terms of wrist movement etc?

4 kind of drops i know

To do slice drop close to net, do a large arm swing-back as if to prepare for a very strong smash. Try to be at full stretch or jump to simulate the coming up of a terrifying smash - this will make opponent retreat back in preparation for a fast smash. perform fast swing and at point of contact slice the shuttle at a not so steep angle ( no sharp wrist snap down - since it is not a steep drop, but close to net), follow through with ur swing.

The shuttle will float over the net and drop sharply down due to spin tight to the net. Bear in mind, if opponent is near the net, it will be floating and rather high since the objective is to make it tight. If opponent has retreated behind in preparation for a smash, he will not be able to reach the shuttle at the net on time for a net kill. The point here is not the steepness, but tightness.

    Just to add

    1. Sliced drop close to net - make it float over net and tight
    2. Sliced drop with some wrist snap
    3. Wrist snap without slice with fast swing and weak soft contact

    4. Alternative for 1.
normal stroke for smash but do not slice or hit / brush the shuttle sideways, float at net but tight - anyone practise this kind of drop
