Muscle toning and badminton... not good bedfellows

    Free advice!

    It is true fact, after i work out, it seems that I can't play badminton anymore. All my muscles get weakened and my arms receives shocks when I swing. Also because of my body mass increases I become slower on the court. As for control, it's totally gone, it's very hard to adjust when your muscles are not totally rested.

    The way I see it, badminton consist mainly of cardio and flexibility. It is dangerous to play badminton after a work out, especially after you've done heavy weights, I personally have ripped a lot muscles by doing that.

    I used to think that toning the muscles of my arms will give benefits to my smashes. But it's wrong!... it took me a while to realize that it's all in the wrist.

    Actually, not only depend on your forearm and wrist... but its all about our biomechanic... our body movement... and perfect timing to smash... correct me if i'm wrong....

    Well, you need to give your body time to rest between exercise. A weights session is NOT a good warm up for badminton. But with rest between the two, improved muscle tone and mass should help your badminton.

    Yes, there is a limit. You don't want to be 100 kilos of pure muscle on a badminton court. But within reason, bigger, stronger muscles should make you faster, not slower.

    If that's true, then all arm-wrestling pros would make killer badders:p.

    Weight training in order for it to be of benefit to badminton must be target specific.I agree that doing weight training before a badminton session is not great for your performance but sometimes after a badminton session can be beneficial.Remember that we want to focus for speed so light weights for chest and arms gives strength with little sacrifice on the speed aspects.Flexibility exercises and a proper warmup also make a difference.Cold stretching in my opinion is dangerous and has little benefits.I myself do laps until I get a light sweat going and then start my stretching routine.I wear my track suit to speed up this process.The obvious factor is the more muscle mass you have the better the performance but of course the genetics of how much fast and slow twitch muscle we have ultimately determines how far we can take our game to along with the hard work.If only all men and women were born equal in talents.Sigh. ;)

    I agree with the hardwork but the more muscle mass the better? Ever seen an Arnold Schwarzenegger playing at the olympics? lol

    I believe that jumping ropes helps a lot!!... Good exercice for cardio, footwork, synchronism and for jumping. Running is easy... you get warmed up and benefit the cardio. But jumping ropes gives better performance ;)

    yes, but in certain places, and some more than others.
    Legs particularly require more muscle to enable rapid changes in direction, deeper lunges, fast recovery from lunges, etc.

    Big pecs are not so useful.
