Hello Everyone! Just joined the forum. I´m from Illinois but currently training and competing in Europe for a month. Check out my website! http://www.shannonpohl.com
I haven't been around here that long, but I'll say welcome as well anyway! Yes nice site, good pictures.
Hi Shannon, Welcome to BF. Great site and it's great to see how committed you are to the game. Best of luck with the training and competition.
Welcome Shannon! (I remember I welcomed you too in one of the professional player forum, if I remember correctly). Be prepared for the: what tension should my racket be? what racket should I use? etc. kind of questions! Ha-ha. -dave p.s. that's wood-underscore-22-underscore-chuck, jug8man
Shannon, welcome again! as mentioned, you are trying to get qualified for the WC this year. how are you going about to achieving that? what kind of training routines are you going through? who's your coach? what do you think your chances are?
hi everyone! thanks for all the nice welcomes! I am trying to qualify for worlds by training as much as I can, looking for as much sponsorship help as i can, and by competing in tournaments around the world. My chances are looking good so far! My training schedule is always changing as there no longer is a official US national training center. When I am home in IL I am working out at my sponsor, the Wellness Center. Here I can do lots of machines, cardio, weights, etc. I also can take advantage of their hot and cold pools for aching muscles. I have no coach because at this time I can not afford one! Hopefully with some help from sponsors I will be able to move to a location in Europe where I can train full time in one location. I have spent the past month training and competing abroad learning from many different coaches. Last week I was training at the IBA, this week I am training with the Finnish National Team, and in a week I will train with the Dutch National team. I'm having a great time and hopefully I will be able to qualify for the WC in singles.
Out of curiosity, which University and county did you represent during your time in England? What subjects did you major in? (And good luck with getting more sponsors )
I played for University of Northumbria in Newcastle. I also represented Northumberland Country. I graduated with a bachelors degree of fine arts in graphic design. Thanks for your interest!
I find it amazing that you were able to train 2x a day and maintain a full time position as a graphics designer! Cool having ya around!
Shannon, can you tell us how you are preparing for the WC in the next 3 months? what is your daily training schedule like? and who is helping your in this quest?
Congratulations Shannon! I noticed that you trained with the Finnish national team (and coach Lars Uhre?) during your stay in Finland. May I ask where and with whom you trained? Unfortunately I missed the Finnish open this year, hopefully you'll be there next year as well. Best of luck to the World Championships!
I just wanted to mention to everyone that I am now coaching in the Chicagoland area! I am available for private, semi-private, and group lessons. I am also available for clinics and demonstrations! I spent last year coaching two adult teams in the Danish professional badminton league. I was happy to return to coaching the Eastern Illinois Junior Badminton Camp this year after being unable to for several years while I was training in California and Denmark! I am currently #2 in the USA in women's singles, and reached my highest international ranking ever this year at #69 in the world in women's singles.
