Hi everyone, can you people send me a pic or pics of your grip when you perform a smash please.... Everytime when I smash, i feel like my racquet is about to slip away and im not holding the racquet tight enough. Also when i perform my smash, the shuttle doesnt go in a downward angle but instead it sometimes flies straight or goes high..... can anyone tell me the right technique to perform a smash and the correct grip.... thanks alot
check out the grip guide: http://www.badmintoncentral.com/badminton-central/content/view/81/35/ you should be using the forehand grip. it will be more helpful if you show us how *you* grip so we can suggest corrections if any is needed.
heres my grip when smashing Here are the pics on how I hold the racquet for a smash and basically anything else except backhand
the way i grip my racket has my fingers spread a little apart, and not all jammed together do you have overgrip on the racket? it helps with keeping hold of the racket
The shuttle does not go downwards because your racket face is not at an angle that directs the shuttle downwards. This is either that your timing is wrong or you have position your racket wrongly. Contact point of shuttle should be anytime during the down swing. At which point of the downswing depends of where you are and how high the shuttle is in relation to your position. Should never hold your racket to tightly. Preferable you should hold the racket (during the smash motion) with the last two fingers and softly with the rest of your other fingers so as to allow the wrist to work to your advantage. Get someone to look at your smash and tell you exactly what you are doing wrong.
thanks for the help and tips guy, today i was smashing way deeper and fast.... all i need is more practice.
remember the follow through your smash.. don't stop after you snap the wrist. Use all your body to smash the birdie and not just the hand arm and wrist.
Grips for smashing Check out the following thread for a discussion of 2 different grips used for smashing. One gripping style uses finger power. The other is a variation (w/o finger power) that Lee Jae Bok recomends in his videos (www.IBBS.tv). http://www.badmintoncentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21018 Lee Jae Bok (world-renowned coach) starts with a neutral grip, but then rotates the racket in his hand some 10 to 15 degrees (or so) CCW (counterclockwise) to achieve his power smash grip. Read the early posts in this thread, but then be sure to go to page 2 to see where LBJ, himself, enters the discussion (starting at post #21)
