Hello, I got a new racket that I really like but the factory grip gets slippery when wet. Should I replace the grip or can I just put on an overgrip? Is an overgrip as good as a replacement grip?
Well the thing is, you never want to wear out the stock grip (to maintain the handle contourr) - always have an overgrip on top.
Depends. Is the factory grip big enough, will adding an overgrip make it too big? If adding an overgrip is OK, do it. If not, find a replacement grip. An overgrip is never as durable as a replacement grip but it's easily removed and replaced. If you want something tacky and absorbent, I recommend the Gamma Supreme Overgrip. It's the best grip I've tried so far and I've tried about 20 different grips.
Wilson Pro-Grip (Overgrip) So far, I found out that this is the best overgrip for me eventhought it is meant for tennis. Maybe I will try the Gamma overgrip during my next trip to Singapore. Last time, I like the Karakal Super PU grip but now Wilson Overgrip is my choice.
The Wilson one is excellent too, right up there with the Gamma Supreme. Even better, with more tack, is the Wilson X-Tack. The only downside is, the grip is a bit short so if you like to wrap the cone and/or "double wrap" to make the grip a bit bigger with more cushion, you will not have enough grip; whereas the Gamma Supreme is a much longer grip, making it possible.
yup that grip you gave me is pretty shweet! been using it for a week now, feels great on my ns8k. durability is excellent, it is like super thick
So will an overgrip help with the slippery grip as much as replacing the grip with one that is designed for moisture?
In general, yes. It depends on the overgrip and the replacement grip. A replacement grip will usually be superior because it's usually thicker and definitely much more durable. It's also more expensive, $5-$8 as opposed to $1-$2. If you want a tacky overgrip, I recommend the Gamma Supreme Overgrip or Wilson X-Tac. They are very good. The Gamma Supreme also absorbs moisture decently well.
Soon as I get a new racquet I tend to strip off the factory grip and re-wrap the handle with two overgrips ( Prince Deraperf or duratread)
my karakal PU super tends to slip once i hit the 2nd hour. Towel grip never last me more than 2 sessions. Now i'm using some Yonex overgrip with nice grove to keep the racquet in place. what's good & thin for replacement grip? i've always used overgrip for easy replacement as my palms sweat alot & because i replaced overgrip very often, the stock replacement grip on my AT900P is peeling very fast.
try Wilson Ultra Wrap. i think it is suitable both for badminton and tennis racquets. - sufficient cushion - slightly sticky
