I noticed that for some to back hand smash hard, they had to lift up their foot on the same side as their playing arm and stamp it down hard as the smash is executed.

can you do a backhand baseline-to-baseline clear? if not, practice that first.

the key to backhand is wrist and finger strength, and don't be tense...

Yes, finger strength as well as supinator muscle in the forearm are very important for backhand strokes. For finger strength, start using grippers. You can increase the supinator strength by exercising with a crappy 3U racquet covered with shaft-length frame cover.

I find that with a back hand smash from the back court, I get the best power by doing a lunge step, but contacting the shuttle up high prior to planting my foot.

most players when executing a backhand smash contact the birdie higher than they would if they were backhand clearing. almost a mini hop is often used.

Yes, i managed that. So, can u teach me the way to smash backhand. Have u watched world grand prix final single match between Lin Dan and Taufik Hidayat. Taufik loves to cover the ball at baseline with backhand and drop the ball pretty accurate just pass the net. How he does it?? Quite curious about it........
