Hi. Some people were asking me before to post here the status of our project to create the best badminton techniques book. I have been playing the sport since the late 70s and I had always been looking for a good techniques book. I'd been disappointed though with the ones I found: most didn't explain fully how to execute the techniques, most didn't have enough pictures illustrating the techniques, and a lot of techniques I wanted to learn (tumbling net shot, jump smash, etc.) were not included. So when I ran across my old badminton teacher, Butch Oreta, a former top national player, the Philippine team badminton coach, and one of the best teachers of the game (he seriously studies the techniques of the game, learning from players the world over; he explains things very clearly), I convinced him to reveal his encyclopedic knowledge of badminton. Thankfully he agreed. In a way, because I'm not an expert in the game, it helped the book become more approachable/readable. I explained things in a way that was understandable even to beginners. Whenever there was something Butch taught that I couldn't apply on the court, I'd keep pestering him and view our videos of him until I'd finally get it--then I'd add the new understanding to the book. The book, "Advanced Badminton Techniques" was eventually published last late December 2005 by UST Publishing House and it's now available in bookstores in Manila. It sold out its first printing and is now in its second printing. Filled with step-by-step photographs and diagrams, we reveal the techniques of world class players in this thorough yet easy-to-read, accessible book. Readers will learn to do the different shots—the serve, the jump smash, the tumbling net drop, drives, pushes, etc.—just like the elite players. They’ll find out the different psychological tactics to handle pressure situations; gain an impenetrable defense; learn the keys to greater stroke power, speed, control and deception. The book's blurb goes: "Whether you're a beginner or the best, this is your guide to better badminton."
Do you have an ISBN number so I may be able to order this book in North America? I have Googled the book and there is not much info out there.
I just check with the local bookstore with the ISBN. The number is not showing so I guess it is not available in Canada. For US$27 that is pretty good price. Does anyone in North American has any luck in ordering the book?
Thanks for the information. I will see if I can get it in Sydney... otherwise I will contact the clan (as the better half is a Filipina).
This is a good book. I do recommend it for EVERY BADMINTON player. All the badminton books that i read or browse thru... personally i think this is a must have.
I want to have this book if it's possible in europe.-Does anyone know if its available? (Since the JR-book is not yet translated).
Since it is in its second printing, I would assume that the publisher will satisfy the Malayasian market first. Then the rest of Asian market. After that, the book may become available in Europe or North America. For now, if you want the book, you will need to buy it from Malayasia and ship it to you.
If anyone from malaysia knows: Is there any big internet shop in malaysia (with english website ) where i could order the book? or a malysian ebay?
Currently the book is not available in Malaysia. But for those who are interested.. i may be able to help those who are in Malaysia to get it.
