Heard the news today from IMG that the Philippine Open is cancelled. It was IBFs decision. IBF rules states that when a host country makes an official declaration of state of emergency, insurgency, rebellion, martial law or war, the tournament will be automatically suspended. Five countries pulled out immediately after President Arroyo declared a state of emergency. Team Netherlands were already at the airport, ready to board their flight but was requested to cancel their trip. This is a very sad day for Philippine badminton. No date yet when the tournament will be rescheduled. IBF tournament schedule is full. :crying: For some news regarding the state of emergency- http://www.philstar.com/philstar/NEWS_FLASH022420065952_28.htm

We regret to inform that the 2006 Philippine Open scheduled on March 1 to 5, 2006 in Manila is postponed indefinitely. Here's an official response from the organizers of the event: From: White, James [mailto:JWhite@IMGWORLD.com] Sent: Monday, February 27, 2006 12:47 PM To: J. Noel E. De Pano, Jr. Cc: Galura, Princess Subject: RE: Philippine Open Badminton 2006 Dear Noel, The Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open event has been POSTPONED--not cancelled. In fact, the reports that indicated it has been "postponed indefinitely" are also slightly inaccurate as we will define the reschedule date by the end of this week. If a government declares a State of Emergency, other governments generally do not allow people to travel to that country--particularly when they will compete in a highly publicized international event. Please keep an eye on the newspapers and the website to find out when the new date of the event this year will be. Thanks for understanding. Best regards, The Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open -----Original Message----- From: J. Noel E. Hoping for some clarification. Thanks! Regards,
ANNOUNCEMENT at the PHILSPORTS ARENA (ULTRA) ANNOUNCEMENT at the PHILSPORTS ARENA (ULTRA) To all RP Open ticketholders and badminton fans: We will all have to wait a bit longer for the inaugural Philippine Open! Due to circumstances beyond our control, the Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open that was scheduled on March 1 to 5 at the PhilSports Complex ( ULTRA) will be postponed until later this year. In view of the current situation, participating countries have been duly advised by their respective governments against traveling to the Philippines in the meantime. This is of course very understandable. The organizers are working with the International Badminton Federation to find a suitable date within the international calendar. Nevertheless, all international participants are eager to come to the Philippines on this later date, when the situation has normalized. To all who have purchased tickets to the event, please hold on to your tickets as these will still be honored on the new event dates. You may also call Ticketworld (8919999) for a refund, if necessary. We look forward to seeing you at the event. With more time to prepare, we know that the Bingo Bonanza Philippine Open staging will even be better! See you all soon! :crying:
