Last saturday, I had a bad fall while playing a leisure badminton game. See the video at http://www.badminton-network.com/viewclip.php?mid=injured On a scale of 1 - 10, how bad did my fall seem?
hmmm, twisted your ankle eh? that's fairly common, is it swollen? some ice would prolly be the best thing for it, to keep the swelling down.
I paused it at the point you fell over (sad I know), it looked quite bad actually, did you damage any ligaments/break a bone? Nice site by the way.
nah, 8's a bit too much for a sprained ankle, unless it was broken. if it's a sprain, i'd say 6, you need to rest for a couple of months though, otherwise it'll won't heal completely. hahaha, all these ratings, it's as if this were some sorta diving contest ...
Damn, looks like you rolled your ankle. I would probably wear a brace and stay off of the court for a couple of weeks. I know it's hard, but if you don't let your injuries heal, it'll worsen as time goes by.
I hope you recover soon enough. The roll looked really bad. What baddy shoes were you wearing at the time?
When i fell, i heard a crack sound and I knew I had fractured the bone. Fortunately my ligaments are still ok. I had sprained my ankle many times, but this is the worst I experienced so far. Doctor's instruction is to rest for 3-4 weeks, wow that's easy for him to say. Time to switch to another hobby like stamp collection, chess etc... Btw, I'm wearing Ashaway badminton court shoe.
How's the Ashaway comparing to Yonex? If it has relatively high clearance, then it's easier to roll your ankles wearing it. You might wanna consider switching brand. Once you rolled your ankle, it becomes easier to roll it again later. One other thing I notice is that your ready stance is too high (you're practically standing straight), making it difficult for you when reaching for the awkward wide angle backhand side shots. Maybe you're complacent about the game, but proper footwork will save you alot of grief.
Looking at the video again, and that you say you have sprained many times, I think it is not neccessarily your shoes, but your footwork. You should try Point you toe straight in the direction you are moving, or slightly outwards when lunging. Because your toe points inwards then it has a higher propernsity to roll over. Good news that you didn't hurt your ligaments they take longer to heal.
yup my leg were lazy, that should be the cause, dont think the shoe has any part to do with my fall. Now I suffer from inflammation on the injured leg. I can hardly sleep and walk now Does sprain caused inflammation?
Sounds like you didn't ice it right away, or inadequately. RICE, or, Rest, Ice, Compression, Elevation, is the standard treatment and is quite effective the sooner it's executed. -dave
We never tell the athletes to 'rest'. You would be better off doing some rehabilitation exercises for up to 12 weeks. You need to work on your coordination and balance! In future, consider taping your ankle before you train! See some ankle injury articles on my blog at http://sportsnmedicine.blogspot.com
Looked like a really painful fall. With all your body weight on that twisted ankle.. ouch. Do get better soon.. I once twisted my ankle wearing a Yonex 'anti-twist' system thing. Lol! Was just painful for a few days, nothing serious, but it taught me never to trust any 'anti-twist' stuff on any shoe. Haha! My playmates had a good laugh when they saw the anti-twist words written on my shoe. 3-4 weeks isn't too bad... my friend was banned from sports for 6 months.. Hang in there!
Make sure it's not broken. My friend did something similar while I was pushing him to the limit... and his feet was broken.
