As there are a few threads about calories and hunger, i would like to tell you my story. I am one of those fanatics that play at least 3 times a week. Sometimes, up to 4 times a week. On Mons, i would play about 4 hours and on Weds, i would play about 3 hours. On Fris, again, i would play about 4 hours. When i first started, my weight was 73kgs but i not weigh 78kgs! My problem is that not only my badminton skills improved but also my appetite! I now eat big meals and snack continuosly! I thought badminton could help me to lose weight. Do you have the same problem? or Anyone has been successful in losing weight?
I'd go off bodyfat rather than weight. As Tony says, a cubic inch of muscles weighs more than one of fat. Increased appetite is completely normal - your body is using more energy than usual after all!
if you are trying to lose weight, don't snack more, eat less but more times so your body is constantly replenishing but not over-eating if you do feel the need to eat. also when you eat, eat slowly. it helps you feel your food level. i understand from my experience that i get really hungry after sports and i just eat and eat and suddenly i notice i'm stuffed. so eating slow will let you know when to stop eating. the other thing is ur muscles might be increasing. i gained a few lbs before i start losing... err... i still haven't lost enuff. i gotta work on my eating habits =P
just imagine if you didn't play badminton and eat the same amount, you will have weight 90kg! seriously though, i think yes it is possible to lose weight via badminton, it will be less effective than other more purely aerobic sports like swimming/cycling/running, but it can be made to work. but as you have probably realized, it will involve more discipline in your diet as well. try to eat as much as you did before you started, and especially after the evening badminton sessions, eating late night snack can make you gain weight very fast.
I still reckon it's pretty hard to lose weight playing badminton unless you're quite heavy to begin with, because I don't believe badminton is very aerobic. However you will gain muscle in your legs, so it's not suprising for someone to gain a few kgs!
After 10 years not playing, getting married and not doing any sport etc etc I weighed in at 129kilos. I now weigh 98kilos after 1 year. I eat reguarly, I am very strong in the legs and torso. I can run 2.5ks in 12 mins on sand. And Im right into fitness. The more you exercise, the more you eat, but you must be careful about what foods you eat in terms of calories, fats, carbs etc.
Lost weight playing? Not at all. Gain weight instead - because of free flow of isotonic dirnk. Just can't resist it :crying:
Update: After following the advice here, i lost one kg. I am now 77kgs. Did i lose fat or just water!? Anyway, i still have big meals cause i am always feeling very hungry but i cut down on high carb snacks.
I haven't lost weight. I've gained weight. I've lost bodyfat from playing various sports and weight lifting. Badminton I play once or twice a week. I went from size 36 waist to 32.
Congratulation!! I only play badminton once a while..There is a way to maintain ur weight..Don straight away sit down after meal..stand o walk bout 30 minutes..It's quite efficient!!
i think you will lose weight if you consis it hum~~~ i have confidence but no patients so bad i always keep this weight for a long time www.in-brands.com
Then you should eat a lot of high carb food. Your description makes me think of Lee Chong Wei. He is too skinny!
I played from 4pm till 7pm today and i am feeling hungry as i type this message. Hope i could resist going to the kitchen to look for food after i am done with this message!
when i finish playing for 3.5 hours of badminton, i try to drink lots of water instead of trying to find something to eat.
